Publisher's Description

Owen Christiansen has been in a downward spiral since an injury ended his NHL career. But a job on an Alaskan crabbing boat offers a fresh start . . . maybe even a shot at romance with Elise “Scotty” McFlynn, the captain’s daughter.

Used to being one of the guys, to never relying on anyone, Scotty doesn’t believe in happily ever after—especially with someone like Owen. Her instinct is confirmed when Casper Christiansen arrives to drag his prodigal brother home, bringing with him a truckload of family drama—and even worse, the news that Casper is wanted for questioning in connection to a crime back in Minnesota.

But Owen is more than the sum of his mistakes, a truth both he and Scotty discover when she escorts both brothers to Deep Haven as part of her new job on the Anchorage police force. Thrust into an unfamiliar world of family, faith, and fresh starts, Scotty begins to see potential for a happy ending . . . if she’s brave enough to embrace it.

Editorial Reviews

Warren’s Minnesota-set Christiansen Family series, including Always on My Mind and The Wonder of You (both 2015), draws to a close with this tale. The focus here is on Owen, the troubled youngest brother of the boisterous, fiercely loyal clan, as he attempts to make amends. Far from home, Owen is part of an Alaskan fishing crew when he begins to develop feelings for Scotty, the captain’s daughter and one tough crew member. A near-death experience draws them together, but both are afraid of opening up old wounds. Owen’s brother, Casper, tracks him down, and all three return to the Christiansen home in Deep Haven. Things are complicated as Owen deals with the consequences of his reckless past and Scotty learns how to trust others. Devoted fans of Warren’s series will love this prodigal-son story, as will new readers. Everyone can relate to the characters’ constant struggles to be more than the sum of their past mistakes, and readers will warm to the grace and hope that propel the growing love between Owen and Scotty.
No-nonsense police officer Scotty McFlynn is “just one of the guys” on her captain father’s old crabbing boat in Alaska. Admittedly not the marrying type, she protects her sensitive heart with an icy shield, never allowing herself to grow close to anyone. The arrival of Owen Christiansen, however, starts to melt away her defenses, and she finds herself falling for the charming man on the run from his past. When their lives are suddenly jeopardized onboard, they realize there is more between them than simply being shipmates. They both survive, sharing secrets and a marriage proposal in the process. When Scotty fulfills her promise to Owen to go back with him to the Christiansen home in Deep Haven, Minn., she finds herself mixed up in clearing Owen’s brother’s name in a murder drama. After her stay with the Christiansen family lasts longer than expected, Scotty must choose which life she really wants. Warren (The Wonder of You) has shaped a beautifully dynamic romance that teaches the value of family and forgiveness through a modern-day prodigal-son story of redemption.

Once again Susan May Warren takes into the lives of the Christiansen clan. The loving, messed up, Bible-believing, squabbling family from Deep Haven, Minnesota. And once again we are reminded of what a messy beautiful thing life can be.

I wasn't sure if I'd really get into You're The One That I Want, honestly, Owen has been my least favorite of the Christiansen siblings, but I've been sold on this series since the beginning so I picked it up without even seeing that it is partly set in Alaska. Now, when it comes to locations in books you pretty much have me sold on anyplace in Ireland or Alaska. So what better way to start a story than with the dangers of life on a crab boat in the icy waters of Alaska?

And you know, it didn't take me long to be totally immersed in Owen and Scotty's story. In fact, I finished this 340+ page book in a single afternoon. Every time I read one of Susan May Warren's books I find a little bit of myself in the characters, You're The One That I Want was no exception. This author has a real knack for understanding people and accurately portraying them on the printed page.

You're The One That I Want is another winner in Susan May Warren's Christiansen Family series, I'm only sorry to have to say goodbye to them...

This is a book that kept me riveted. Owen is the bad boy, the broken character, the prodigal son. The relationship between him and Casper is deepened in how they made amends and reconcile, but more importantly the story between Owen and Scotty and how they each help the other to heal.

This isn't a simple story. Owen left a lot of broken pieces in his wake. But through this last book of the Christiansen family, we can see the depth of Owen's soul and life; and his impetuousness.

Of all the books, I found the story of Casper and Owen my favorites. Two brothers who are so much alike and yet so different.

Youre the One That I Want wraps up the Christiansen Family series by Susan May Warren. Family black sheep Owen Christiansen has run about as far as possible, now working on an Alaskan crabbing boat. He has made plenty of mistakes in his life and isnt aware of the extent of the chaos he left behind after a one-night stand which, unknown to Owen, resulted in the birth of his daughter. Casper, Owens brother, wants to marry Raina who is the mother of Owens daughter. (This is not a book spoiler.) Casper tracks Owen to Alaska and the hospital where Owen is recovering after a boating accident which included Scotty McFlynn, the boats first mate.

The reunion between Owen and Casper in the hospital was incredibly awkward, in my opinion, but I cant imagine how it could be anything else given the situation. There was another awkward scene near the end of the book, which I wont elaborate about to prevent spoilers. Overall, though, the book was about living life to the fullest and with enthusiasm, which can often lead to stupendous wipeouts but can also be richly rewarding. The book was generally well written, and I dont recall any repetitious dialogue or commentary.

If you have followed the Christiansen family through this series, I would recommend you read this final installment. If this is your first Christiansen family story, I would probably recommend you start elsewhere. While this was not my favorite story, it was well crafted, in my opinion.

I received a copy of this book through The Book Club Network in exchange for my honest review.

Susan May Warren in her new book Youre The One That I Want Book Six in the Christiansen Family series published by Tyndale House Publishers takes us into the life of Owen Christiansen.

From the back cover: Owen Christiansen has been in a downward spiral since an injury ended his NHL career. But a job on an Alaskan crabbing boat offers a fresh start . . . maybe even a shot at romance with Elise Scotty McFlynn, the captains daughter.

Used to being one of the guys, to never relying on anyone, Scotty doesnt believe in happily ever after―especially with someone like Owen. Her instinct is confirmed when Casper Christiansen arrives to drag his prodigal brother home, bringing with him a truckload of family drama―and even worse, the news that Casper is wanted for questioning in connection to a crime back in Minnesota.

But Owen is more than the sum of his mistakes, a truth both he and Scotty discover when she escorts both brothers to Deep Haven as part of her new job on the Anchorage police force. Thrust into an unfamiliar world of family, faith, and fresh starts, Scotty begins to see potential for a happy ending . . . if shes brave enough to embrace it.

The action starts in Alaska. There is a lot going on and the action zips along nicely. Then Casper comes to collect his brother and bring him home and the scene shifts to Deep Haven. Scotty goes with them due to her new job on the Anchorage police force. That is what makes this book so much fun. Obviously there is a whole lot going on in this book. I really enjoy the Christiansen family. Did I mention that this is a romance? Right now the main focus is on Elise Scotty, Owen and Casper. The Christiansen Family are not perfect however they are interesting and I would have no problem having them as my friends. Ms. Warren does a superb job of making each character, especially Scotty, Owen and Casper, come alive so much that they seem as if they have been our friends all our lives. Youre The One That I Want is a wonderful, sweet story with power and depth that will keep you flipping pages. I am sorry that this series is ending however I do look forward to the next offering from the highly talented Ms. Warren.

YOU'RE THE ONE THAT I WANT is a wonderful conclusion to the Christiansen family series. It's primarily the story of Owen, the prodigal, returning home and his romance with Scotty, but also throws quite another twist to Casper and Raina's story. All of the Christiansen clan is included; it was nice to catch up with what was going on in their lives. Throughout is the message of God's grace and love for us, despite the messes we make in our lives. I was glad that I waited to get this book till summer vacation so I could read it mostly in one day. It was so good I didn't want to stop and do anything but read! I highly recommend this whole series. It will take some time to read all six books, plus a couple of novellas, but it is well worth the time.
