Tim C4 Stars Out Of 5Lessons To Be LearnedApril 25, 2017Tim CQuality: 4Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Author is accused of being "liberal", in another post. If by liberal, they mean, "teaches God's commands" then, I suppose he is. However, the term "liberal" is used too often by Fundamentalists who can't agree with any view but their own.
The author attempts to, in a humorous way, demonstrate how we have gone from obeying the two greatest commandments, "Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your mind and with all your soul" and the second which is "Love your neighbor as yourself" which Jesus stated summarized everything else written in the Law and the Prophets. Or, as Paul states, "Though I speak in the tongues of men or Angels, but do not have love, I am but a clashing cymbal."
We are told to follow God's commandments, which John tells us is, "To believe in his Son, whom he sent, and to love one another". Yet, some would have us think that "worldliness" (as described in Col. 2 (Do not touch, do not eat, do not drink) the unimportant things this world tells us is wrong, and "has an appearance of godliness, but has no value" is far more important than how we treat each other.
Dan Merchant shows us in humorous manners how we are getting it all wrong. I highly recommend people read this, and pray that they are not the reason people choose not to come to God. I think this book helps us realize what we as a group have done, and how to not to be so Anti-Christ in our Christianity.
Waldo3 Stars Out Of 5ConfusedJuly 9, 2016WaldoQuality: 4Value: 4Meets Expectations: 2I was never really sure what the author's purpose was. As Christians, we should not water down our faith. I agree with talking to others, but he never seemed to respond to anyone - even to his readers in the pages of the book. Some of those people were just plain wrong and he seemed to accept everyone and distort his Christianity.
mary3 Stars Out Of 5Lord, Save Us From Your FollowersNovember 30, 2014maryI believe these topics are very important. I would recommend this book because it covers a failing in the approach Christians use to "convert" others. For those interested in more information on this topic, you can go to You Tube and google Todd White, an evangelical preacher and hands on healer (really!!!) who has a lot of lectures registered there. He covers this very topic from his own life and give you advice on what your role is in changing things.
