AmyT3 Stars Out Of 5A Simple DevotionalSeptember 16, 2013AmyTQuality: 3Value: 5Meets Expectations: 4The One Year - Sweet and Simple Moments with God Devotional by Kim Newlen is not really my style. It is a little "fluffy" for my taste. I think it is a good devotional, not theologically wrong - but I like to dive deeper into God's word. I like to have scripture to read and deep insights to think on. But despite my personal taste, I believe this would be a great gift for someone who needs some encouragement and simple pick me up each day. In fact, I already have someone in mind to give it to.
This book is a daily devotional, with a scripture, some womanly insights on this scripture and a fun application. For example on April 10th the theme is Do You Need Rest? and the scripture is Matthew 11:28. The fun application is "Treat yourself to a few restful moments today. Curl up on the couch with a favorite warm beverage and read through the psalms."
Even despite my negative personal review. I do believe that it is a good simple devotional, that many women will truly enjoy. If you want a simple, good devotional that will challenge and encourage you - this is the book for you.
Thank you to Tyndale for letting me review this book.

Kim Newlen's devotional for women is titled, The One Year Sweet and Simple Moments with God Devotional. It's 365 devotional that you can sit down with a cup of coffee, afternoon snack, or in the morning as you get up. The cover was enjoyable, bright enough to find in the dark. I notice that each day it starts out with a verse, a simple story, and key section is to learn, to practice things. In addition, on the back of the book it includes the following and I agree with it: "Simple moments that will revive your spirit and renew your heart. Sometimes we're running so fast it's hard to find time for the things that matter most."
Short, sweet and simple for each day. Stories were very quick and easy to get involved in. Included in each day, all the days had a single theme to it. The one that really caught my eye was January 1, Lifetime Resolutions, it reminds me of when I make resolutions for the year and need to keep them. Relearned that God has a generous heart. He always gives hugs to all people. In addition, loved the word BSSYP. Would I recommend this book to my family, yes I would recommend this book to my family. It's simple, it's short little daily devotions that they would be able to enjoy. Unfortunately, the person whom I would give my copy too, went to the lord, earlier this year, even so I know that she would totally would enjoy the devotional. I have no negative reviews of the book.
I received a complimentary copy of the book for review purposes from Tyndale House.
Proverbs 31 WannabeFloridaAge: 35-44Gender: female4 Stars Out Of 5Sweet & Simple is exactly that!August 29, 2013Proverbs 31 WannabeFloridaAge: 35-44Gender: femaleQuality: 4Value: 4Meets Expectations: 5Sweet & Simple Moments with God Devotional is exactly what the title indicates. There are devotions for each day of the year that are simple, yet give me a thought to mull over throughout my day. I am excited to read each morning what Kim Newlen has written for that day. The last several days have had a continuous theme of having a makeover. Beginning with Cleansing and Hydrating and moving to Foundation, Concealers, Eyes, Cheeks, Lips, and Perfume, each thought is loosely based on those themes, but with deeper spiritual and biblical ideas.
