Product Description

Laura Ingalls Wilder is best known and loved for the stories of her childhood and life growing up during the pioneer days. But Laura was also a journalist, writing about her observations of everyday life. This volume, the second in the series, is filled with her thoughtful, engaging opinions on a variety of subjects from women and their roles inside and outside the home, to modern conveniences and their effects on home life, to stories about churning butter, beauty parlors and the challenging life on the frontier.

Interspersed among the articles are photographs of Laura, her husband Almanzo, and their home, giving the readers a glimpse into the private world of Laura Ingalls Wilder.

These writings provide a fascinating look at the changing modern world through the eyes of a remarkable pioneer woman. Readers will be delighted by her charm, wit, and forthright discussions of issues that impacted her readers then and which are still relevant today. Especially recommended for ages 10 to 14.

Publisher's Description

In Writings to Young Women from Laura Ingalls Wilder: On Life As a Pioneer Woman, Laura tells her readers what it was like to be a pioneer in the early 1900s. Her stories and insights show us how difficult even the simplest chores or tasks were for the early pioneers, yet through it all she continued to see each situation as an adventure--as if she was truly blazing the trail for future generations.

Author Bio

Laura Ingalls Wilder wrote the Little House books based on her own experiences growing up on the Western frontier. Just like the characters in her stories, Laura and her family traveled by covered wagon across the Midwest and experienced many of the same adventures. She finally settled down in Mansfield, Missouri, with her husband Almanzo, where she lived until she was ninety years old.
