Mrs HAge: 35-44Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Learning to Write without Tears!August 23, 2012Mrs HAge: 35-44Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5I never would have thought to have my child write their autobiography- after all, he was only 9. What had he done? By the time he finished we had learned so much about writing and had been able to do it without either of us crying or fighting. And it turns out that he had a lot to say. Our favorite was his "Wanted Poster" descriptions of his family (like the old western villain posters about gunslingers). It's a wonderful keep sake we still look back on now that he is a teenager. I used it with my daughter too with the same results. It seems simple when you look at it and I thought is this too simple? But it really works. They prepare to write first by exploring descriptive words and learning to outline. Then they do the assignment, each one creative and unique with about 5 actual stories and many more creative ways to describe themselves and the people in their life. A nice alternative to some more traditional approaches, it was a fun project for our year.
