I really felt it had some good comparisons. I received a copy of this book from book fun.org for a fair and honest opinion.
jacquiRIllinoisAge: Over 65Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Wounded Women of the BibleAugust 29, 2015jacquiRIllinoisAge: Over 65Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 0Wounded Women of the Bible by Dena Dyer and Tina Samples is a very interesting book and is a very helpful one. Finding Hope When Life Hurts is a subtitle of the book, and that states it all. Each chapter tells the story of a woman from the Bible with a particular struggle or hurt. These stories in themselves are intriguing, but the authors also include their personal stories or those of people that they know. Each story reassures the reader that she is not alone in her pain or struggle. Each chapter focuses on a Bible passage, and at the end of the book there is a very helpful Study Guide on each woman/struggle issue. Each chapter has a subtitle such as From Grief to Gratitude and From Holding On to Letting Go which makes it easy to know the focus of the chapter. These can be read/studied in order or according to a particular need.
This book/study can be for individual use or would be great for a womens Bible Study. Each chapter study guide has a Talk It Out section and a Write It Out section and closes with a prayer. I would recommend this to any individual or to a womens group. I received this book through TBCN in exchange for an honest review.
KGD history teacher5 Stars Out Of 5Good for Group or Individual StudyMay 13, 2015KGD history teacherQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5All of us have been wounded at some point in our lives. Sometimes we survive those wounds and find a way to be better for those woundings; other times we fail to rise up and stay in a broken place. This book has a message for all women. The authors have taken the stories of twelve women from scripture. Each of them had a different wound or hurt. Some overcame their hurts to the glory of God, others did not. The authors add their own perspectives from their personal life experiences. They then share testimonies from other women who have gone through similar experiences. Their goal is to help the reader see, God takes our wounds, the pieces of our life, and He puts the picture together. We see pieces of a puzzle, but God sees the big picture.Sometimes our wounds leave holes in our lifes puzzle, but God comes in and fills the holes with a picture of Himself. God replaces the missing pieces with love, restoration, hope.
Wounded Women of the Bible is not a book to be read through quickly. It is a book to be read one chapter at a time and contemplated. There is a study guide at the back of the book to either facilitate a group discussion or an individual study. There are thoughtful questions and applications as well as further scripture readings.
I received this book from The Book Club Network in exchange for my honest opinion.
S WPAGender: Female5 Stars Out Of 5Fantastic Bible Study BookApril 9, 2015S WPAGender: FemaleQuality: 0Value: 0Meets Expectations: 0I absolutely loved this book!!! I really enjoyed the perspective on the women that were chosen for this book. They didn't pick obvious heroines from the Bible but they really chose women that you could relate to.
This was a Bible study that you can do alone or with a group - I definitely benefited from this book and will recommend to my book club and any woman of any age or phase of life. I so appreciated the experiences and testimonies that were shared in this book.
This has hit my favorite list!!
I was given this book for my honest review from The Book Club Network.
ShaiNorfolk, NEAge: 35-44Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5A place to begin healingApril 6, 2015ShaiNorfolk, NEAge: 35-44Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Wounded Women of the Bible is such a great book and bible study! Ive recommended it to all of my friends and family. I absolutely love the style of writing and the way the authors, Dena Dyer and Tina Samples, relate each woman to real life, everyday struggles. The book can be read without doing the study but it is so much better with the study.
With twelve women from the Bible, Ms. Dyer and Ms. Samples tackle tough issues like rejection, betrayal and desertion. By telling their own personal stories or the stories of other women, they relate these women from the bible stories and correlate them to contemporary issues. Wherever your heart has been wounded most, that particular story will resonate best.
I found Wounded Women of the Bible to be so much more than storytelling. I found it to be a wonderful place to begin healing those wounds that run far too deep.
I received this book from the Book Club Network and Kregel Publications in exchange for my honest opinion which Ive provided here.
