As a survivor of childhood sexual abuse, I found this book to be exceptionally valuable in my lifelong journey of healing. I am almost half finished reading the book and completing the workbook together. I highly recommend getting and working both together. This book is deep and profound. I have wept and prayed over answering the questions he asks. This book has prompted me to do more honest soul searching than I ever have before in my life. It is not by any means an easy or simple book to work through. I strongly advise seeing a qualified Christian counselor along with this set, especially if you are just starting your journey of healing your wounded heart. I have read many books on this subject and have gone through a few years of counseling, and yet this book has opened my eyes to so see more than ever that Christ is the absolute healer of the wounded heart. I believe if you honestly let this author speak to you, through this book, and the Word of God, along with the support of your counselor, it can and will bring true and lasting healing to your heart. It will not be necessarily easy, but it will be worth it. This author gives compassionate, challenging Scriptural counsel...I hope this book helps you as much as it has helped me!! I would recommend it to a friend, if they were also seeing a counselor.

The Wounded Heart is a very disturbing yet eye-opening look into the reality of sexual abuse. This is indeed a much needed resource for the church today. There is arguably no more shame-laden and guilt-inducing issue than sexual abuse. It is a constant companion that threatens (and brutally succeeds) to hinder all personal, social, and spiritual growth in the abused individual. Having never had any personal experience with sexual abuse but having three precious daughters, Dr. Allender presented a compelling case for every parent and youth worker to be alert to the dangers and reality of sexual abuse. His approach was unique and different from secular counselors in that it is incredibly Christ-centered. The root cause of sexual abuse is the sinful nature of human beings. The real enemy is not the perpetrator, but the forces of evil behind them. This is not to diminish the heinous and despicable acts sexual abusers have committed, but rather to emphasize that no one is beyond Gods redemption. For all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God says the Apostle Paul, and this includes both victim and perpetrator alike. Dr. Allender explains with sensitivity the uncompromising truth that God is the One who ultimately heals the wounded heart in both the victim and perpetrator. A note on narration, the narrator was very easy to listen to and not distracting in any way. I received this audiobook for free as part of a reviewing program from christianaudio and was not obligated to write a positive review. For more information, visit www.christianaudio.com.

I was sexually abused by my father. This book helped me through a very difficult time, when, I as an adult was sick of living with the mess inside of me. The author says that it will be a hard journey, but one worth taking. I finished the book and workbook (suggest you buy that, too) a few years back. It has made a world of difference!!!

This book has been a tool for a group of woman learning that our behavior is not abnormal; we had developed ways of behaving because of the abuse we have all been through. The book has helped us become more self aware and accepting of the person God created us to be. Highly recommended!

This is a excellent source of help for me. I purchased the workbook as well. I suggest for you to do the same. I had been looking for a biblical perspective and found it in this book. PLEASE work through this book with your councilor if need be as I am doing. Or at least show your councilor the book to let him/her know that you are reading it. It will help your process!

This book helped me realize that the wounds of my childhood sexual abuse had not all been worked through like I thought. I realized also that most of us (survivors) need to work with a professional councilor, one that specializes in trauma.

This book helped validate many areas I had been struggling with for years. I recommend both the workbook and book.
