I am always amazed at how timely Tozer's writings are, and this book is no different in this 11 chapter compilation on the subject of worship, including some never before published material.

Tozer's passionate plea for the Christians to return to pure God centered worship shines with zeal and cutting conviction. Just as relevant today as when it was written over 50 years ago. A powerful read, Tozer takes a closer look at the reason for which we were created, our attitudes and how we can get back to a Christ centered worship.

Tozer is concise, firm and cutting he doesn't pull back punches. He is well spoken and with excellent illustrations to get his points across. Truly a standout among Tozer's writings, a must read for Christians. Convicting and encouraging read that emphasizes the major role that worship should play in our walk with Christ.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

I have always enjoyed the teachings of classic theologian A.W. Tozer. This current compiled series of Tozer's works has so far been wonderful. The series includes books on the following biblical concepts:

    - Culture

    - Disipleship

    - Church

    - Jesus

    - Prayer

    - Worship

This particular book on Worship has the following theme: The Reason We Were Created. It is structured with eleven chapters. By Tozer's standards, the chapters are fairly brief, anywhere from 4-8 pages. His teachings are compiled from both his personal writings and his sermons - but these are not noted specifically throughout the book itself. Each chapter begins with a scripture reference that ties into its specific concept. This book is by far one of my favorites within the series. Believers often lose sight of the real reason for worship, our role in worship, and how to fully worship. Tozer addresses all of these points throughout the book. Even though his writings were for a completely different generation of believers, his wisdom is still completely applicable to the church and believers today.

For many, Tozer can teach in a way that is very difficult to understand and follow. The more you read his writings, the more you begin to grasp the way he thinks, preaches, and teaches. Some of this difficulty comes from the fact that his writings and preaching take on the old language from his era.

Despite these obstacles, I believe anyone who reads Tozer's teachings will gain an immense amount of biblical wisdom and knowledge.

Another excellent Tozer book! I love this Tozer series taken from sermons and books. In this edition on worship, Tozer makes the call back to true worship. To be set apart from the idolatrous society that we live in today. Though these essays were written during other times, the message is much more relevant today than they were in Tozer's time. As time has gone by, society becomes more and more idolatrous and farther away from genuine worship.

Tozer echoes something I always say, if we're not worshipping God then we are worshipping someone or something else. We were made for worship, it's undeniable.

This little book is jammed packed with so much soul food it leaves you overwhelmed, in a good way! Tozer's timeless exhortation is much needed today more than ever.

I never read Tozer without a pencil in hand. His words are often rich with godliness and drenched in wisdom. Drawing from previous writings and sermons as well as unpublished writings, this particular volume on worship is short yet powerful. Tozer has a way of communicating great truths about the majesty and glory of God is an understandable way. He also doesn't hold back any punches. At one point he points out that many churches are filled with spiritually immature children we never made it past first grade! But his insights into what it means to live a life of worship come from a man who has evidently spent time in the trenches of Christian warfare. Tozer writes, "No worship is wholly pleasing to God until there is nothing in me displeasing to God." He constantly calls the lukewarm Christian to worship God on every day of the week, not just Sunday. I am a worship pastor and picked up this book to further learn the relationship between corporate worship on Sundays and personal worship throughout the week. I have never come away from a Tozer book without conviction. I received this book free from the publishers in return for an honest review.

In "Worship," A.W. Tozer challenges Christians to reconsider what it means to worship the triune God who created humans to glorify and enjoy Him forever. This short book is a collection of writings and sermons that Tozer preached on the topic of worship over the decades of his ministry that are still applicable to believers today. There are several main ideas reiterated throughout the eleven sermons that summarize Tozer's theology on worship. Firstly, Tozer reminds us that true worship is God's calling for all those who have put their faith in Christ. Only those who have been purchased by Jesus' blood and adopted into the family of God can lift up praises to their heavenly Father. Secondly, Tozer asserts that worship is a serious, reverent undertaking in which we humble ourselves in the presence of Him who is perfectly holy. Our worship is only acceptable to God in that we approach Him clothed in Christ's righteousness and empowered by the Holy Spirit. Believers should be keenly aware of their unworthiness apart from Christ as we eagerly draw near to the Fountainhead of all blessings and righteousness. Thirdly, Tozer points out that worship is a Spirit-filled, passionate exercise that involves all our affections as we offer our heads, hearts, and hands to the One who is worthy of all praise and honour. Lastly, Tozer urges Christians to commit every part and moment of their lives to worship God and extol His excellencies. It is dangerous and unbiblical to compartmentalize our lives by only committing a specific day, time, or aspect of our lives to worship our King.

I would highly recommend this book to all believers as the subject of worship is vitally important to the Christian life. Many of us approach worship as a joyless duty that we must do on Sundays as we continue to breed feelings of apathy and indifference. When we harbour such irreverent attitudes towards worship, we are being unfaithful to our call as Christians who have been saved by the boundless mercy, grace, and love, of God. Moreover, we are abdicating the precious privileges and blessings of worship made available through Christ who gave His life to bring us into God's presence. Readers of this book will find Tozer's encouragements and warnings invaluable in spurring us to worship God in awe, reverence, and joy.
