From the increase in terrorism, to the push for gender fluidity, to the gradual eradicating of Christianity from public schools, many of the trends unfolding this century can be worrying. Earl M. Blackburn's 50 World-Changing Events in Christian History demonstrates how learning about our history in the midst of such times can be one of the best tools to encourage us in our faith. Through his retelling of stories of the perseverance of Christian heroes such as John Wycliffe, Martin Luther, and William Wilberforce, Blackburn provides readers with inspiration for everyday struggles and courage about the church of today.
Blackburn reminds readers that God never changes. He is the same all powerful Lord who has walked with Christian heroes of the past, is present with us today, and will continue to provide in the future.

Earl Blackburn has written a helpful and unusual book. It is well researched and written with the average Christian in mind. In just over 300 pages, he covers church history from the end of the New Testament to the present day.
This delightful and worthy book attempts to encapsulate 2,000 years of church history into 50 key events in a way that is accessible to the general reader. The writer describes it as 'an entry-level book on church history'.
... As a professor of Church History, one of the most frequent questions I am asked is for a recommendation of a simple survey of the life of the church over the last 2,000 years. Now I have the answer to that question...
... 50 World-Changing Events in Christian History is a helpful overview of church history written from an evangelical and reformed perspective. I hope it will help many believers understand how their own lives and local churches fit into the ongoing story of God's new covenant people from every tribe, language, and nation.
This really is a fine piece of work and should be very popular and highly useful in the church.

Tell us a little about yourself. I have been in the ordained Christian/gospel ministry over 40 years. I have served as a missionary, church planter, and Senior Pastor. It has been my privilege to speak in numerous Ministers conferences in Europe, Africa, and the Pacific Rim countries. I am married to the most wonderful Christian woman in the world for over 42 years. Second only to Christ, she is the love of my life. Despite being a cancer survivor of 13+ years, and surviving a heart attack, I am still actively engaged in pastoral ministry and writing.
What was your motivation behind this project? To educate the young Christian and the average layperson, that has little or no knowlege of 2,000 years of Christian history, in the wonderful and mighty works of the Lord God.
What do you hope folks will gain from this project? A greater love and deeper appreciation for Christ, who said that He would build his Church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it (Matt 16:18b). Also, to encourage Christians that the great and glorious God, who has done wonderful works in the past, is still working and quite capable of doing extraordinary things in the future through ordinary people. Finally, to inspire believers to serve boldly, expectantly, and lovingly the Lord Jesus Christ.
How were you personally impacted by working on this project? My mind and heart were amazed at seeing the wisdom, mystery, intricacy, and yet simplicity of how Christ kept, and is keeping His promise to build His Church. While writing, my soul would at times be filled with such awe that I had to stop and praise our great God.
Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists? As a young Christian, (amost 50 years ago), I encountered the eight volumes of the noted church historian, Philip Schaaf, entitled History of the Christian Church. It was he that first whetted my appetite, and then numerous teachers and professors fueled my hunger to know His story. A detailed Selected Bibliography is included at the end of thebook.
Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know: The lessons that eventually became this book were first given in a mixed Sunday school class entitled Church History 101. The response was so popular that the class was requested and repeated several times over the years. This book was written not just for the individual believer, but to be used in Sunday school classes of varying ages, Small Groups, Christian school classes, and in numerous venues where His story might be told.
