Using a contextual approach, Wordly Wise 3000 students are taught to say unfamiliar words and identify any possible similarities to other words, use the word in context, break the word down into parts, and finally look it up. Three thousand carefully selected words taken from literature, textbooks, and SAT-prep books form the backbone of this vocabulary series. Each lesson begins with a Word List that includes pronunciations, parts of speech, and concise definitions, and uses each word in an interesting, contextual, sentence. Wordly Wise 3000, Book 6 is made up of 20 lessons with 15 words in each lesson.
In Book 6, vocabulary instruction focuses on preparing students with strategies to unlock the meaning of words they will encounter in content area texts, literature, and high-stakes tests. Comprehension of the vocabulary words is facilitated and reinforced through Greek and Latin word studies with an emphasis on prefixes, suffixes, parts of speech, synonyms, antonyms, and analogies.
This third edition features the same word lists as the second edition, however, the passages and questions that follow the passages have been updated and assigned measures from The Lexile Framework for Reading. Wordly Wise 3000, 3rd Edition is not compatible with 2nd Edition teacher's guides and resources.
Wordly Wise 3000, Book 6 contains 20 lessons. Words taught in Book 6 include: cordial, flammable, gait, hoax, oblivious, perpetual, placid, preliminary, retaliate, scoff, unanimous, vanquish and more. 216 two-tone pages, softcover. Grade 6.
Please note: this book contains examples that reference "billions of years."

Because it's not heavily ladden with daily work or "busy work," there is a lot of room to use the lesson's words in ways that work for your child--tactile activities, silly games, writing, etc.

We utilize the Wordly Wise vocabulary books in grades five through twelve. As a language arts teacher I am enjoying seeing my students develop varied and useful vocabularies. Plus, imagine how their ACT scores will be increased due to all of these years of vocabulary study and use!
JMoore5 Stars Out Of 5Wordly WiseJuly 16, 2015JMooreQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Very pleased with this! I am homeschooling a 6th grader and the vocab words and exercises for the week are perfect for our needs. The comprehension exercises make him think, they are not something he can just fly through and get the answer correct. I have 12 years of homeschooling under my belt, and am starting the process over with our youngest. Was not familiar with this curriculum and took a chance with it. Very happy I did.
