    The pros and cons

We created an additional exercise taking apart each vocab word to define each p/r/s to the actual vocab word , e.g. "indestructible" in=not, de=apart, struct=to build, ible=able to be. Or "built not to be able to take apart".

Pros: Lesson activities are not overwhelming. Each lesson sticks to the theme. The activities are thorough, with 4 activities for each lesson's 6 word list. With my additional exercise, the book is good and my child is learning better.

Cons: Language source of root (Greek/Latin/etc.) is not defined. Limitations stem from having multiple definitions of the prefix/suffix in each lesson and disconnect between vocab word definition and the prefix/suffix applied to the root. For the price I shouldn't have to create an exercise to make the book do its intended job, but the activities are really good and would take a lot of time to create.

I may buy rest of series if I can't find anything better.

We are going to use this book for our upper elementary children but please be aware that the book is NOT written from a Christian perspective and they will be learning about words you may not want them to learn. There are, for example, pictures of magic being performed and some words we don't teach about - such as hypnotism, unicorns, charm bracelets, etc. The book doesn't emphasize Christian values and if you teach modesty, you will have to color clothes on the cartoon women in the book. They are dressed like men. I would not recommend this book for a Christian homeschooling family.
