I have a hard time reading at my age. I decided to review audio bibles and came upon this version. I was very pleased with how professional this was done and how I felt as if I was right there with them, just like when you listen to a movie with your eyes closed. You still use your imagination as a guide, but they add to it with all the background activities. The door closing when someone leaves a room, the crowd conversing when Jesus preaches in public areas. Some may think this wold distract from His words, but it does not. It takes you there.
I have enjoyed this so much I have given it to others as a gift. I really enjoy listen to scripture when on the road as well.
I just received The Word of Promise Audio Bible on C.D. which I immediately gave my husband for Father's Day. He said "Excellent"! I bought the first one earlier this year, receiving it February 1 and immediately began listening. I finished the entire Bible June 6 which is something I have never done. It was no race to see how quickly I could get through it. I just wanted more and more and was so anxious to listen to the entire Bible. I have already started over again and intend to get through the entire Bible again before the end of 2016. I don't have enough words to describe how much I have enjoyed it and all that I have gleaned from it. This project was no doubt a massive undertaking. It was very professionally done and adds so much to the Bible by having different voices, music and sound effects throughout the Bible. I have had other versions on cassette tape and even one that was dramatized but nothing like The Word of Promise Audio Bible that immersed me so deeply while listening. I love the different voices for each of the prophets and a particular voice representing the voice of GOD. My husband was aware of the Audio Bible's impact on my life before receiving his own copy. I wanted my own copy accessible at all times. I have told a number of people about it and one friend purchased a copy almost immediately. We have purchased at least two others for friends including one for our pastoral assistant who is bi-lingual. I have been in the Word since a child and in church all my life. My husband and I have many different versions of the Bible that we use when studying to extract as much of the richness as possible and he uses the New King James when he preaches. Never has the Bible come so alive for me as it does in this Audio Bible. The book of Revelation is Awesome! I love the letters by Paul and at times it sounds like the scratching of a pen writing the letters. The crucifixion and resurrection are powerful as well but then it is hard to decide on a favorite part. I am so very thankful for this Audio Bible and all the wisdom and skill and money and time that went into producing it. It is anointed!
I listen to the Bible every day driving to and from work, and get through the entire Bible at least once per year. I love the cast and the drama: Gary Sinese as David is wonderful as is John Rhys Davies as Saul; Stacy Keach as Job: fantastic! also as Paul in NT; Lou Gossett Jr as John is perfect; Ernie Hudson as Peter is so human and believable; Michael York carries a huge narration role beautifully; I hesitate to keep naming as I do not want to leave anyone out. The only drawback is Richard Dreyfuss totally miscast as Moses: delivers the whole book of Deuteronomy like each line is his last as he "kicks the bucket". Does not really "get it": you can tell he's not a believer. Jason Alexander as Joseph is great, however. I have bought this for friends, including the elderly who cannot read the Bible due to eyesight issues, and they love hearing the Word of God. Oh, and Jim Cavieziel as Jesus is unforgettable.
I don't really enjoy this version at all. It's a quality recording technically. Honestly, I'm not use to some woman singing words in the background while Jesus' statements are being provided. The background music and the voice of God reminds me of the Wizard of Oz. Some of these actors portraying these biblical characters just does not work for me...like a highly nasal Moses...I remember the actor too much. I feel the creativity in this set decreases the majesty of God and limits my ability to see him fully. I often read the Psalms to my children; when my 10 year old had the flu I played the Psalms from this set when I could not read any more...my son started throwing up...freaky background music...like bending metal. My husband said it keeps him alert to the information while commuting. This was a gift for my husband so I'm relieved he is using it. I was excited about the carrying cases for several disks, however, I can't readily see which disks are in which case so honestly they get separated out and the disks are all over the house and cars...so that didn't work for us either. I wish I did not spend so much money on it and wish I didn't buy it at all.
