Kris BushOrlando, FLAge: 25-34Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Great when studying the women of the bibleJanuary 7, 2020Kris BushOrlando, FLAge: 25-34Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5So for each day of this devotional, you will focus on a different woman of the Bible. Some of these women are very well known and others are less known but none the less worth learning about. And they are grouped together in the same manner as they are in the (in) courage bible. There are the women of beautiful brokenness, women better together, women of daily grace, women of leadership and the women of friendship. One thing I love about this devotional and it's accompanying bible is the emphasis on these amazing women of the Bible and learning about them. There's also much to learn.
In my opinion this devotional is best used along with the (in) courage bible and is especially helpful when studying the women of the Bible.
(As usual, I received this book from the publisher in exchange for my honest opinion.) -
Kendra3 Stars Out Of 5devotions for the brokenheartedDecember 9, 2019KendraThis devotion book, written by the (in)courage community writers and edited by Mary Carver, draws from the stories and examples of forty women from the Bible. The book itself is beautifully bound, and features artistic black and white photography and a marker ribbon.
The book is divided into topical sections, and I would not necessarily recommend reading it in order, maybe skipping around based on the circumstances of the day. Each devotion begins with a Scripture reading (printed in the book) and ends with a prayer. The prayers were the least appealing part of the book for me. A great majority of them were along the lines of "I'm so angry....how could you ever forgive me...the things I've done are so ugly...I've made such a mess...this loss feels like the end of me...I'm so desperate...I've made a mistake so big I'm not sure I'll ever recover..." My negative emotions just don't run that big every day, I guess, and so the prayers didn't really "fit." In general, I think the book is helpful for all, but maybe geared most to the struggling, brokenhearted woman needing encouragement.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher (B&H) in exchange for my review. -
Sue5 Stars Out Of 5Beautiful ContentDecember 3, 2019SueQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Women of Courage ~ A Forty-Day Devotional edited by Mary Carver is a beautiful devotional.
This devotional book features a biblical passages, commentary on the passage and then a heartfelt prayer that relates to the passage. There is a variety of content in the chapters, which include: women of beautiful brokenness, women better together, women of daily grace, women of leadership, women of friendship, women of hope, women of hospitality, women of gratitude, women of second chances, and women of bravery. This book has rich content and deep value. This would make a beautiful gift. It also features vibrant photographs.
Each chapter features Biblical insight from up to five women of the Bible. I enjoyed the insight shared and particularly the prayers at the end of each section. This book does have fairly deeper content and doesn't just "gloss" over each woman. This book is intended to go along with the (in)courage Devotional Bible, but clearly can stand on it's own!
I was given a free copy for my honest review from the publisher. I would recommend Women of Courage ~ A Forty-Day Devotional. -
Helianthus5 Stars Out Of 5Wonderful devotional on well-known and not-so-well-known women of the BibleDecember 2, 2019HelianthusQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Many of us look for a new devotional every year, and this is an especially good pick. It's 40 stories from women throughout the Bible. Some you know well, like Sarah, Esther, and Mary Magdalene. But you will gain fresh insight into their stories through this book. Others may be less familiar, such as the Widow of Nain, Priscilla, and Dorcas. Their stories will inspire your courage in new ways.
What makes this book unique is that the women aren't ordered according to the chronological order of the books of the Bible. I found that refreshing, and it kept my attention. Another beautiful feature of this book is the heartfelt, intimate prayers that help you apply the story to your spiritual journey. I enjoyed the honest, thought-provoking questions that hit me right where I need to be challenged in every chapter.
This book has beautiful black-and-white photos to accompany each story, and the highlighting color is a bright, courageous shade of orange. This devotional would make a great addition to your personal library or an encouraging gift for a friend or family member.
I received a preview copy of Women of Courage from B&H Publishers.
