Rebecca Ruter Springer's vision of heaven was first published in the early 1900s. Mrs. Springer was unconscious for some days while the vision was unveiled to her; the vision itself covers a period of years. Rebecca Springer said that each person would need to draw his or her own conclusions about the vision, but that she had reported it as it had come to her at the time. She came to understand the vision as a series of basic instructions about heaven rather than a revelation of the past or future. She said the initial instructions from the vision came in the form of illustrations, in a style as if one were teaching truths to children. Then the application and meaning of these illustrations were given. Rebecca wrote, "I am painfully aware of the fact that I can never paint for others the scenes as they appeared to me during those wonderful days . . .With the hope that it may comfort and uplift some who read, even as it then did, and as its memory ever will do for me, I submit this imperfect sketch of a most perfect vision."

I have read this little book over many times and still the longing is as strong now as it was when I first picked-up it up.
AustinAge: 25-34Gender: female1 Stars Out Of 5Magical River cleans you of last stains of sinApril 22, 2014AustinAge: 25-34Gender: femaleThe book speaks of pleasant things but there were some very disturbing elements. In Ch.11 The Temple, Springer writes,"...a fountain of sparkling water played...it was the source of the magical River that flowed through the gardens of heaven and cleansed us of the last stains of death and sin." Doesn't the blood of Jesus cleanse us of all sin? Is His blood not sufficient? In Ch.8 Rebecca Meets Her Sister, Springer writes about how being in a lake made her spirit stronger and able to understand the mysteries of the world. Doesn't our strength come from the Lord and aren't mysteries revealed to us by Him? In Ch.13 a man is so overcome by what he did on earth that he feels too inadequate to receive all that heaven offers. He's content to remain in the "lowest scale of enjoyment and life." He even begs not to see the Lord. His only cure apparently is to go to the River to cleanse his mind. In Ch.14 Springer's brother-in-law Frank, who goes on frequent missions to earth, ministered to his dying brother for three days. Aren't angels the ones who minister to us and carry out God's word? The dead being among us sound too much like familiar spirits. Frank also mentions in this chapter how "bewildered and oppressed in spirit" Springer was before going into the River when she arrived in heaven. Is it really possible to be under oppression in heaven when oppression comes from the enemy? These are just some of the things that I found odd about this book's version of heaven.
