Jen PenMidwest5 Stars Out Of 5Wonderful pearls of wisdom...December 23, 2014Jen PenMidwestQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 4SUMMARY:
Making decisions every day can be tough, especially if those decisions are not wise ones made on Gods wisdom from the book of Proverbs. Applying those truths, Bob Merritt shares wisdom on many topics (money, revenge, friends, parenting, relationships, effort). Written from years of experience, Bob Merritt shares this guide for lifealmost a how-to live the correct life God intended
A PENNY FOR MY THOUGHTS:
Wisdom is often something learned- either through our own trail-and-errors or those of someone else. Having learned from his own experiences (including both good and bad decisions), Bob Merritt openly reiterates those lessons gained to help others make informed decisions which ultimately will affect directions of life. Not claiming to be an expert though, Get Wise takes the words of wisdom and bases them on the Proverbs. I most appreciated the pearls shared on relationships, character and success. Highly relevant in todays society, this book would work well as a Bible Study, a graduation gift, or personal reading. Why not learn from someones wisdom to make your own life better?

'Get Wisdom' breaks up into five different sections; "Wisdom, Weaknesses, and God" discusses why we should trust Solomon's wisdom and how we can acquire the same, "Personal Wisdom" covers the heart, mouth and feet. From there we move into relational and family wisdom and end with "Successful Wisdom''.
Incredibly well written and well thought out, do I have any choice but to give this book 5 stars?? I am also proud to announce that this is my husband's FIFTH book he read in 2014. Doesn't that count for a little something? ;) Add 'Get Wise' to your reading list for January 2015 and get ready to feel motivated in all aspects of life.
I received a copy of this book from Baker Publishing in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own

Michele MorinWarren, MaineAge: 45-54Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Proverbs for Wise LivingOctober 19, 2014Michele MorinWarren, MaineAge: 45-54Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Thank you, Bob Merritt, for doing what I have always wanted to do: sifting through the random assortment of life-giving wisdom in the book of Proverbs and categorizing the verses according to theme.
As a pastor, Merritt knows that the book of Proverbs contains the wise words that our hearts need. In fact, he equates having a wise heart with spiritual sensitivity, and then highlights eleven other extremely practical aspects of living where the application of godly wisdom to daily decisions can make the difference between success and failure, triumph and defeat, life and death. These categories fall into four major groupings: Personal Wisdom, Relational Wisdom, Family Wisdom, and Successful Wisdom.
Although the book reads just as Baker's category (Christian Living) implies, it could also serve well as a teacher's guide since it includes discussion questions and a focus verse for each chapter. Merritt's personal experiences have just the right blend of grimace and grin to hit home -- his transparency is heartwarming. I actually could not help but read parts of the book out loud to my husband and kids, and they had the same reaction. The next time I teach from the book of Proverbs, this book will be nearby as I study.
I received this book free from Baker Publishing Group. The opinions I have expressed are my own, and I was not required to write a positive review. I am disclosing this in accordance with the Federal Trade Commissions 16 CFR, Part 255
