Word Wisdom will help students to take ownership of new vocabulary as they discover the meaning of new words and phrases, use context clues, analyze meaningful word parts, and consult reference materials. Students will demonstrate understanding of word relationships and nuances in word meaning and acquire general academic and subject-specific words through lessons that provide direct instruction and context-clues strategies.
The student edition provides a year's worth of lessons that will help students unlock the meaning of over 300 new vocabulary words in context, process new words through activities that reinforce meanings, and apply new words through activities that access higher thinking skills.
This Grade 8 course includes nine topical units: behavior, measuremnet, communication, society, movement, good and bad, time, the mind, and law and order. Each unit covers using context clues, specific Latin and/or Greek roots such as err, pla, plea, vers, vert and others, and reference skills such as syllabication and pronunciation from a dictionary, using word origins, and more.
The Teacher Edition provides annotated Student Edition pages, weekly and daily instructional planners, student learning objectives, assessment blackline masters, helpful tips that make teaching easy, and a correlation to the Common Core State Standards.
