"The chapter titled 'Your Brain on Porn' is one of the best explanations of how a person becomes addicted to the neurochemicals involved in love, romance, sexual arousal, and human touch. Wired for Intimacy is a valuable contribution to our field." (Given four out of five stars)
"Fascinating and highly informative."
" Wired for Intimacy is a groundbreaking book on the brain chemistry of sexual addiction. Every man needs to understand how his sexual choices affect this crucial part of his humanity. It will be a great help toward sanctification for those who embrace its message."
"This book opens the door for Christians to talk about men, sex and addiction in a candid and intelligent manner."

I had just committed to my wife to go to counseling and turn my back on a twenty year struggle with pornography when I ran across a copy of this book at a closeout store. I showed it to my wife and she agreed we would read it out loud together.
As we read, Dr. Struthers's descriptions of what porn does and how it becomes addictive, and how we have to realize what broken aspects of our life history and personality traits make us so vulnerable, it was almost like a diagnostic checklist of my life - check, check, CHECK, oh my goodness CHECK, check, check.........
When one has been drowning in porn as long as I was you just don't realize that the first thing to do, as Will Rogers famously remarked about being trapped in a hole, is to stop digging! Dr. Struthers words made me stop digging and start connecting to God and my wife again to build the ladder out of the hole I had placed myself all my relationships in.
It hasn't been easy, and we have had lots of help from our therapist, a support group, and our pastor, but this book nailed me and my pathology and addiction to the wall. We have shared many other books since then and several have been very helpful and inspirational, but without this book I might never have developed the roadmap from "how and why did I get here (the depths of addiction)" to "I (we) have help and a plan of day to day success and we know with the guidance of God we will prevail and prosper!"
Give this book to anyone you know who is at risk - single men and boys, newlyweds, sons-in-law, any man (and more women than you could imagine) who has a computer and an Internet connection or even a cable subscription. Ask them to pass it on once they have read it.

Tell us a little about yourself. I am a behavioral neuroscientist currently teaching in the Psychology Department at Wheaton College. I have a PhD in Biopsychology and have been researching the brain and teaching courses in neuroscience and psychopharmacology for twenty years.
What was your motivation behind this project? This project came out of a course I taught at Wheaton titled 'Men and Addictions'. The book focuses on one part of the course (sexual addictions) which was the most interesting to students. Also, the prevalence of pornography in our hype-sexual culture has wounded men and women significantly.
What do you hope folks will gain from this project? I hope that readers will gain a better understanding of how we are made as bio-pyscho-social-spiritual unities, and how that plays out from a neurological perspective. My hope is that this knowledge, along with my view of sexuality as inherently rooted in the relational image of God and in our need for intimacy, will help men discover why pornography can hold such power over them. For those not struggling with pornography, I hope it gives them greater compassion for those caught up in pornography.
How were you personally impacted by working on this project? This was a hard book to write, but I felt called and convicted to write it.
Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists? My favorite fiction author is JRR Tolkien, and my favorite musical artists are Phil Keaggy and U2.
Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know: I have a fantastic wife and three children (2 girls, 1 boy).
