Publisher's Description

Win or lose, one thing that’s true . . . No matter what, I love you!

Competition can bring out the worst in us, but it can also be an opportunity to learn impactful life lessons. That’s why it’s so important for kids to understand how to handle winning and losing!

Join Lulu and Max as they help Bear-Bear, Goosey, Coyote and the rest of their animal friends in the Field Day contests determine who will be the leader of Lulu’s forest.

But as the animals soon find out, not everyone can win. Sore losers, unkind winners, flaring tempers, and a few tears are taking the fun straight out of Field Day!

Just like Lulu and Max help the animals navigate the ups and downs of the day, with Win or Lose, I Love You parents will be equipped to help children:

  • Replace the selfish characteristics of competition with an understanding of how to treat others fairly
  • Overcome the tendency to display poor sportsmanship by using Biblical truths to develop a Christ-like attitude
  • Reject the labels of winning and losing and embrace that they are loved no matter how they perform.

Win or Lose, I Love You will show your child that, no matter what, their value is tied to who they are, not how they play!

Win or Lose by Lysa Terkeurst is a really cute story about having a good attitude whether you win or lose. The illustrations are bright, cute, and filled with action. My son loved looking at the pictures and really enjoyed the story.

This story starts with two kids going to the forest to set up games for their forest friends to play. Whoever wins the most games will be crowned leader of the forest, but when the animals struggle to be nice they find out what really matters.

Kids will enjoy this story because they can relate to always wanting to win or getting upset about losing. I loved how well the author got the kids thinking and able to recognize who should be made the leader. I think this story is perfect for ages 4-7, and I hope your child loves it as much as mine did.

I was given this book for free from Booklook Bloggers in exchange for an honest review.

I chose to review the book Win or Lose I Love You! by Lysa Terkeurst because I wanted a book for my children to help teach them to play fair. I have had problems in the past with my children wanting to cheat at games just to win. They are very competitive and none of them want to lose. This book certainly demonstrated how to behave whether you win or lose.

I love the theme for the book "You may not win, but you must try. Sometimes you'll lose, but there's no need to cry. Win or lose, one thing that's true... No matter what, I love you!

Lulu and Max are the main characters and they go into the forest to have a field day with the animals. When the animals compete there is trouble with winning and losing. But everything works out great in the end. Bear-Bear is the character that exhibits the best behavior and is made the leader of the forest. Coyote learns a lesson on how he needs to act when he loses and when he wins.

Included at the end of the book is 10 Biblical Words of Wisdom Whether You Win or Lose. The only thing I did not like was that the many different versions of the Bible was used in the Words of Wisdom. However if you are a fan of KJV only which I am, then you can just remove this last page.

The illustrations by Jana Christy were very cute and whimsical. Overall this book was very cute and I hope that my children can better understand what it is like to win and lose with grace the next time they play a game together.

I am provided with a free copy of this book from the publisher through the booklook bloggers book review program. I was not required to write a positive review but to express my own opinion on this book.

My thoughts: This is such an adorable book and the two characters, Lulu and Max, are so typically little boy and little girl. The artist has done a great job of bringing these two alive and so like the boys and girls who will be the readers of this book. The forest animals and scenes are done with a whimsical touch making it even more appealing and delightful.

The intention of the author is to show forth ways that a child can develop an attitude of doing their best throughout life and being able to accept winning or losing with a Christ-like attitude. Being able to accept this will help them to be assured that their life has value - win or lose.

As Lulu and Max visit their forest friends to judge the events, they find that the winners gloat and the losers cry. This is a good little story that teaches some good lessons.

I especially like the section in the back: 10 Biblical Words of Wisdom Whether You Win or Lose. Example: "Don't rejoice when your enemies fall; don't be happy when they stumble." Proverbs 24:17 and "God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble." James 4:6

"You may not win, but you must try.

Sometimes you'll lose, but there's no need to cry.

Win or lose, one thing that's true--

No matter what, I love you!"
