Encouraging and MotivatingAugust 10, 2013eb7bibliophileHigh Desert WestAge: 55-65Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Caroline Barnett writes with humor, style, conviction and love. There are anecdotes and quotes to illustrate her very good points, and Scriptures to back them up. She tells us why self-help books are ineffective when we don't start by relying on God, and listening to the command to help others. The stories of life experiences from the author and others touched my heart. I have more ways to pray for, and more ways to help people after reading this book.

bookwormPennsylvaniaAge: 25-34Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Challenging and InspiringJuly 20, 2013bookwormPennsylvaniaAge: 25-34Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Willing to Walk on Water is an inspirational read that compels you to step out of your comfort zone and start serving others. The author uses true stories from herself, her family, volunteers that help at the Dream Center, and those that they have helped to explain the importance of serving others from a Biblical perspective. She starts by telling her own story of how she started serving others at the Dream Center and how her service has affected her spiritually as well as how the service has changed others' lives. She then describes how to find what breaks your heart and what to do to be a part of the solution. This book gives practical advice on how we can serve God by serving others and what steps we can take to use our God-given gifts, talents, passions, and skills to serve God by serving others. The author also stresses that if we obey God in how He wants us to serve others and live our lives, then we will live richer, fuller, more satisfying lives and that we will grow closer to Him. If we are willing to serve God and obey His purpose for our lives, then He will bring about the dream He has placed in our hearts. The author also explains that it will not always be easy and we will face discouraging times, but when those times occur, if we continue to trust and obey God, He will work everything out as He has planned. While reading this book, I felt pretty convicted because I know I am not doing all that I should to serve others and I have a tendency to make excuses for why I am not. After reading this book, I have come to the conclusion that I need to discover what my trigger is, how God wants to use me for others, and then get out of my comfort zone and into the water. This is a book that I think every Christian should read-it is certainly a good eye-opener and encouraging to start doing what God has placed Christians to do in this world, which is to serve and help win souls for His kingdom.

The author and her husband run the Dream Center in Los Angeles, which is a place that helps those in need. I thought the book was a good read with some interesting ideas on reaching out. There were many examples from the Dream Center of people who made a difference in the lives of the needy.
