I was told by the publisher himself that this version, which includes a CDROM, is a CONDENSED or ABRIDGED version of the larger work by Wiersbe of several volumes, "he Bible Exposition Commentary, 6 Volumes," which by contrast does not seem to be available digitally, which is sad. (I hope I am wrong.) I would give it five stars, if i were the complete work and included a CDROM that worked on any platform. Of course, some less-demanding computer-oriented students or frequently-traveling missionaries, would settle for the main points and, since the full work does not seem to be available digitally, would say that we had no other choice. The publisher himself told me that some of the copies of this two-set edition, if not many, left the warehouse with the defect that the pages were out of sequence in some parts. At least one other customer made that observation on his review, which is why I contacted the publisher to confirm it or point it out to him. I do not know whether the customer was able to exchange it for a correctly-assembled edition, but you may wish to look over your copy as soon as you get it, rather than wait a few years and later be told that it is out of print.

This is a life-application commentary, not a background or critical commentary, which is very useful for devotional or homiletical purposes; it shows you parallels and analogies to real-life situations, rather than telling you geographical details, original-language information, and so on.. (e.g., it might point out that Peter's walking on water toward Jesus and then sinking shortly thereafter, can represent our need to take risks in life and God's willingness to do the impossible for us, only up until we begin to doubt him or fear that He will not follow through on His promises, at which point we may begin to totter.) The temptation with a devotional commentary like this, however, is to depend on what the commentary says, rather than on what God can reveal to us personally. We may end up sharing with our audience or Bible-study group things from this book which we were never able to discover on our own, leading them to believe that God speaks to us more than He really does, and making us feel that a dependence on the H.S. is not so necessary when studying the Word. This is no substitute for persistent prayer and a dependence on God to reveal these applications to us, instead of the book. We should use it to supplement what good applications God has already shown us personally, rather than to look first to what God had shown the author of the commentary. In fact, the availability of works like this may be one of the factors that has made it so easy for so many of our churches to demonstrate such brilliance and finesse on the outside and yet such spiritual emptiness on the inside; pastors' depending on others' sermons and on devotional commentaries, rather than on their own conversations with God.

this is a great addition to any library. Wiersby has a way of bringing hard-to-understand Scripture into your heart. He helps by giving you the background behind the Scripture and cross references to other Scripture. i highly recommend.

I've only had these two commentary books for a few weeks but have used the New Testament book a lot (doing a Bible study on the book of John). The explanations are so easy to understand; I'm very pleased with my purchase.
