Amanda CainPurvis, MSAge: 18-24Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Why Christmas? and Why Easter?March 21, 2015Amanda CainPurvis, MSAge: 18-24Gender: femaleQuality: 4Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Why Easter? and Why Christmas? are both written by Barbara Reaoch, and illustrated by Carol McCarty. Broken down into very manageable daily readings, Why Easter? and Why Christmas? are ideal for the month before each holiday as there are twenty-eight daily readings in each book.
More than just a book of Bible stories, Why Easter? and Why Christmas? consist of a Bible passage, a Bible lesson, discussion questions, a song, and Bible memorization for each day, in small portions ideal for little people!
I believe parents will find Why Easter? and Why Christmas? to be helpful additions to their library, and that children will enjoy the interactive Bible lessons. Overall, I found Why Easter? and Why Christmas? to be well-written, and filled with beautiful, yet simple, illustrations. I would give the books a B.

Anne5 Stars Out Of 5Great Christmas Devotional for FamiliesNovember 28, 2012AnneQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5In this devotional, Barbara Reaoch has written 25 days of daily devotions. So, you can begin with it on December 1st, which is what we'll be doing. For each day, Ms. Reaoch has written a short talk/devotional, identified a truth to focus on, given several questions to discuss, a verse to memorize, 1 of 4 hymns to sing, and a biblical term or word to explain. These devotionals would be best for children ages 4 or 5 through 10. Younger children who are 3, with older siblings, would also be able to pay attention.
There were several things that I love about this devotional.
#1 The language is very appropriate for 4-10 year olds.
#2 I have learned that the reading level of the Bible and hymns is high. Many of the words in the Bible and Christmas carols need to be explained to children so they can understand them. It was wise of the author to identify words and phrases for parents to discuss with and explain to their children.
#3 And finally, it is just what I was looking for.
Anyways, I just wanted to post this quick review in case you, like me, are looking for something like this book.... Take a look at the preview. This book would work in a kindle version, but I find with younger children that having a picture to look at is really helpful. If you are finding this book just as December has begun, though, the kindle version is inexpensive and you can download it immediately. You could definitely talk through the devotionals with you kids, which is the way we read the Bible with our kids and it doesn't have illustrations.
I am very glad that Shepherd Press has published this book this year!
Please note that I received a complimentary copy of this book from Shepherd Press for review.
