You may be white, but don’t think you have no culture. Charting his own journey toward understanding his white identity, Daniel Hill shows us the seven stages we encounter on the path to cultural awakening. This book is a call to find our deepest sense of identity in Christ, realizing that those who are white must first break free of the distorted sense of identity that has been internalized from the narrative of racial differences in order to do this. White Awake will give you a new perspective on being white and also empower you to be an agent of reconciliation in our increasingly diverse and divided world.

KDutt5 Stars Out Of 5Thanks for this book!September 21, 2017KDuttQuality: 4Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5White Awake by Daniel Hill is a faith based perspective on why and how white supremacy needs to be broken down in individuals, organizations, and society. Using his personal story as well as many important voices in the field such as Mark Charles, Drew Hart, Dr. Soong-Chan Rah and Dr. Robin DiAngelo Hill shapes a conversation that white people can engage in to not only start to see the ways that racism effects this country but also to do the work to start change within themselves.
I appreciate Hills humble nature of his journey and his ability to make challenging words not condemning ones. White Awake allows white people to jump in disassembling white supremacy wherever they are on the journey. I found myself laughing remembering some of the lessons I have learned along the way, wishing I could go back to redo many conversations that I have had, and being challenged and encouraged to keep going as I learn how to work on the white supremacy within me.
