Publisher's Description

The best-selling author of Circle Maker, which helped over 2 million people learn to talk to God, now helps readers learn how to listen to God.

The voice that spoke the cosmos into existence is the same voice that parted the Red sea, and made the sun stand still in the midday sky. One day, this voice will make all things new, but it’s also speaking to you now!

That voice is God’s voice, and what we’ve learned from Scripture is that He often speaks in a whisper. Not to make it difficult to hear Him, but to draw us close.

Many people have a tough time believing God still speaks. Sure, in ancient times and in mysterious ways, God spoke to His people, but is He still speaking now?

Mark Batterson certainly believes so. And he wants to introduce you to the seven love languages of God; each of them unique and entirely divine. Some of them you might suspect but others will surprise you.

By learning to tune in to and decipher each language, you’ll be able to hear His guidance in simple as well as life-altering choices. God is actively speaking through: Scripture, Desires, Doors, Dreams, People, Promptings, and Pain. Batterson gives you the tools you need to unlock each of these languages.

God’s whisper can answer your most burning questions, calm your deepest fears, and fulfill your loftiest dreams.

Discover how simple it is to hear God’s voice in every aspect of your life!

He’s speaking, make sure you know how to listen!

Whisper: How to Hear the Voice of God, written by Mark Batterson, published by Waterbrook & Multnomah, is a book designed for those attempting to discern whether or not God is speaking to them.

Many people today wonder if God still speaks to Christians. If He stills makes Himself known people today. For those who question, Mark Batterson has the answer. He believes that God still speaks, but we need to learn how to listen properly.

Mark states in this book that a whisper from God has the ability to change our lives in powerful ways. Knowing how to hear God can bring about miracles, bold visions, and proper directions. Marks desire is to help his readers understand that hearing God can become a natural occurrence for believers.

Mark does this by introducing seven different ways that God speaks to His children and the need to have a whispering spot, a specific place to listen to Gods voice.

This book addresses/answers the questions that Christians have about God speaking to us today, thus it is a recommended purchase for those who want to hear more clearly the voice of God.

I read the book, while taking notes on all the things that do not line up with the Bible.

Would I recommend this book to Christians who value absolute truth? Absolutely not. While it does have some good content, we should NOT try to eat the meat and spit out the bones. This phrase is not a biblical metaphor at all. When talking about separating truth and error, the Bible talks about it metaphorically as yeast in bread (Galatians 5:9, and Matthew 16:6 and 11). Have you ever tried to eat bread and spit out the yeast?

Lean in and listen. That is the message of Mark Batterson, New York Times best-selling author in his book Whisper: How to Hear the Voice of God published by Multnomah. Im going to be perfectly honest with you. Im a skeptic when so many people proclaim that they have heard the voice of God. Ive always have stated, How did you know it was Gods voice and not the pizza that you had the night before? So when I received this book to read and review I will be honest with you. I was skeptical. What can this guy teach me about listening to Gods voice? Just read the Scripture and you will hear Gods voice Ive always thought. I will tell you that Batterson softened up this skeptical mind of mine by keeping his commitment to Scripture while exploring the different ways that our Father speaks to us.

Mark Batterson, lead pastor of National Community Church in Washington D.C., has written several popular books over the years like The Circle Maker and In a Pit with a Lion on a Snowy Day. He is very good at weaving an abundance of stories with the truth that he has gleaned from Scripture. This book holds your attention and is easily read. I found myself running to twitter to quote him several times.

The book is broken up into two sections. In the first he speaks about the power of a whisper and talks about the power of silence and listening. In the second section of the book he speaks about the seven love languages that God uses to speak to us. As stated before in each section he is committed to Scripture but very skillfully speaks about the ways that God uses to communicate to us and how we might take full advantage of that means.

The chapter on pain is just about worth the whole book. I know that I will be pulling this book back off of my shelf to reread that section in the future.

All in all I do highly recommend this book. I can see why Batterson has been so successful in the past with his writing. This was my first work of his to read but it wont be my last. I want to go back and read the books that put this author on the map.

I received a copy of this book for an honest review.
