Gretchen Garrison5 Stars Out Of 5Historical fiction about second chancesOctober 3, 2022Gretchen GarrisonQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5"I am grateful," he said in a softer, more serious voice. "Being here, away from the city, with you. I find a growing desire to live ... differently than I had been living. I want to look forward to tomorrow and whatever is down the road. I'm grateful you scared them birds away."
"I think you should hold on to that desire and follow where the road bends. You can have a different life."
Nora has many hopes and dreams. When her life does not go as planned, she makes some desperate choices. Can she find a way to listen to her own advice to start over? Will she recover and trust again?
This is a book about helping others to get a fresh start. I really appreciated the emphasis on grace by moving on from where we were to where we could be. While it is not necessarily suspenseful, there definitely was some tension due to certain situations. The plot definitely had some twists and turns. I would classify the book as historical fiction with a bit of romance.
I really enjoyed this stand-alone title by Rachel Fordham. (While it is a separate story, I do think that there are characters that the reader might recognize from some of her other titles.) As for the audio portion, I thought overall that the narrator did a good job. She did change her voice to match the characters, but a few times she seemed to mix them up. Overall, the audiobook worked. Her voice is definitely pleasing to the ear.
Although I received a copy through Netgalley, I ended up waiting for this book to release because I had more time to listen to this book. Then I checked it out from the library. (It was a wonderful motivator for me to work outside!) I requested to read this title as I have read several of the author's other books and had enjoyed them. All opinions in this review are my own.
elcissoni4 Stars Out Of 5clean, historical romanceAugust 8, 2022elcissoniQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5I read the first few chapters of Where the Road Bends a few months before it was released and ended up pre-ordering it because I was hooked; I had to find out what happened with Quincy and Norah! I have read a few of Rachel Fordham's books before and enjoyed them so I knew I would like this one also. This book is a historical romance but the research and depth of the story added a lot to the book. Check this one out if you like clean, historical romance that isn't superficial.
FayeAge: 25-34Gender: Female4 Stars Out Of 5Historical RomanceAugust 5, 2022FayeAge: 25-34Gender: FemaleQuality: 4Value: 4Meets Expectations: 3Norah King is out of options when it comes to saving her farm after the death of her father, so she agrees to marry a neighboring farmer to save her land, but an injured stranger throws her future plans into turmoil.
My heart definitely went out to Nora, things just kept going from bad to worse for poor Nora as she is stuck in an impossible situation. I liked how she takes Quincy in, showing kindness and hospitality, doing the right thing even when it hurts. Nora's kindness to Quincy is a turning point in his life, and I liked that he changes his life as a result of meeting Nora.
There was a lot to like about this book, with strong themes of forgiveness, second chances, and the importance of honesty. There were things that I both liked and disliked about the time jump, and I could see why it was done. While there were noble themes, the story wasn't overtly Christian, which isn't a bad thing just might not be what some people are expecting going into it. Great for fans of clean historical romance.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
Kirsten4 Stars Out Of 5Fighting for a second chanceAugust 1, 2022KirstenThis was a sweet historical romance, I enjoyed the themes of hope and honesty, and the parallels and homage to Persuasion.

Terri Gillespie5 Stars Out Of 5Beautiful Story with a Classic FeelJuly 27, 2022Terri GillespieQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Where the Road Bends by Rachel Fordham was a page-turning historical romance. About halfway through the book, I kept thinking the story reminded me of the classic, Les Misrables, but it became so much more--even without the singing. Still, in the author notes, Rachel mentions that the Victor Hugo's classic tale of redemption inspired her.
The brief synopsis: Norah King's only way to save her family farm is to marry a total stranger. Out of nowhere, she finds a badly injured man, Quincy Barnes, and as she drags his body into her home, she inadvertently pulls him into her life. Her act of charity gives the "fianc of convenience" an out and she is left homeless.
Quincy and Norah trade situations and--I can't say any more because it would give away this beautiful story.
This is my first Rachel Fordham novel, but most certainly will not be my last. Looking forward to more from this author.
Highly recommended for readers of inspirational historical romance and stories unafraid to address the unsavory part of human nature.
Thanks to the publisher, Revell for an advanced eBook copy of #wheretheroadbends through #NetGalley, for my honest review.
