PennyMindingMomAge: 35-44Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Share the Christmas story with your child.November 17, 2016PennyMindingMomAge: 35-44Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Each year at the beginning of advent I fill a basket and set it under the tree. Its filled with books, one for each of the days leading up to Christmas day. The kids look forward to picking a book from the basket and reading it together as a family. I try to keep each book faith based, so that we can take time each night to remember why we celebrate Christmas. Where Jesus Slept will be a wonderful addition to our Christmas basket.
Where Jesus Slept by Norma Lewis, tells the story of Jesus birth. The story starts at the manger where Jesus slept and ends with the Wise Men who came to share their gifts with the newborn King.
The story is told in rhyme, reminiscent of This is the House that Jack Built from my childhood days. There is a lot of repetition so your little one can read along with you. The font size is large, perfect for young readers. I like how they highlighted several of the key words in the story, my children love to point them out on each page as we read together.
The illustration by Katy Hudson are soft and soothing, perfect for reading just before bed. I love how they help your child visualize the Christmas story. You will find your little ones telling the story using their own words.
The story opens and ends with a scripture verse. I love how this encourages your little ones to explore their faith and the Bible. My children always want to open the Bible and read the suggested verses directly. We will often read a few verses before and after and talk about how it relates to what we just read.
Where Jesus Slept is a beautiful rendition of the Christmas story that you will want to share with your children time and time again.

Laura of Harvest Lane CottageCarthage, MOAge: 45-54Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Marvelous Rhythm and Rhyme Read AloudNovember 12, 2016Laura of Harvest Lane CottageCarthage, MOAge: 45-54Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5One of the things I love about the Christmas season is the coziness of the season. I have cherished memories of snuggling in the big rocker recliner with my little children piled around me or cuddling on the sofa with a big blanket and a pile of Christmas picture books. Twinkling Christmas tree lights and hot homemade cocoa made it all the cozier.
My children are now nearly all grown. They range from 15 through 25. Gone are the days of cuddling up with a pile of books and reading the evening away. Now they're busy with many things. But. They still insist on the tradition of a new Christmas picture book every year. I usually present it to the family on Christmas Eve. It's my pleasure to review books in an effort to find the perfect one.
I really like Where Jesus Slept. Although I read it silently, I can just imagine how nice it will be to read it aloud. It's inspired by the Mother Goose rhyme "The House that Jack Built." Remember? If not, I'm sure you can Google it. ~smile~
I enjoy books that have rhythm and rhyme. They're just so much fun to read to childreneven if they're nearly grown. Norma Lewis has used it beautifully to tell the dearly beloved account of our Savior's birth.
The cover is typical of the art throughout. Katy Hudson has presented quiet, peaceful, restful illustrations throughout the book. The colors and people are tasteful. She does not make the characters in the book look like outlandish cartoons as many illustrators are apt to do. Baby Jesus is a perfect example of her style.
I highly recommend this bookespecially if you have littles from birth to about seven or eight. It would be a merry little book to enjoy with emergent readers. The repetition would reinforce new words they were learning. Mostly, it's a book to enjoy and keep the focus of Christmas just where it should bewith Christ.

The illustrations are really nice to look at and talk about. The story is all about where JESUS slept. This is a beautiful book. It has a hard cover and a slip cover. The story is based on the verse Luke 2:10B-11 The words describe the pages very well and by the time you finish the book.. you will know where JESUS slept.
Treenz5 Stars Out Of 5Beautifully illustrated, cute story!October 29, 2016TreenzQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5I am always excited to read new children's christmas picture books. One thing I really enjoyed about this one is how they picked up the familiar 'House That Jack Built' type rhyme to create the story of Jesus' birth.
I think it was really clever how Norma has done it and she really pulled it off well! It gives the story a fresh feel, plus is an excellent book for reading aloud because of this pattern.
Here's an excerpt: "This is Mary there is the stable that sheltered the cow that shared the straw that lined the bed where Jesus slept."
My only slight complaint is the rhyming isn't as good as in the House that Jack built, there is a bit of rhyme in this one but not as much. It still seems to work okay reading aloud though.
The illustrations by Katy Hudson are just adorable too.
This is a must have to add to your christmas picture book collection. The children will love it!
