Product Description

When Mountains Move, by Julie Cantrell

It is the spring of 1943. With a wedding and a cross-country move, Millie's world is about to change forever. If only her past could change with it. Soon after the break of day, Bump will become Millie's husband. And then, if all goes as planned, they will leave the rain-soaked fields of Mississippi and head for the wilds of the Colorado Rockies. As Millie tries to forget a dark secret, she hasn't yet realized how drastically those past experiences will impact the coming days.

Publisher's Description

In a few hours, Millie will say "I do" to Bump Anderson, a man who loves her through and through. But would he love her if he knew the secret she keeps?

Millie’s mind is racing and there seems to be no clear line between right and wrong. Either path leads to pain, and she’ll do anything to protect the ones she loves. So she decides to bury the truth and begin again, helping Bump launch a ranch in the wilds of Colorado. But just when she thinks she’s left her old Mississippi life behind, the facts surface in the most challenging way.

That’s when Millie’s grandmother, Oka, arrives to help. Relying on her age-old Choctaw traditions, Oka teaches Millie the power of second chances. Millie resists, believing redemption is about as likely as moving mountains. But Oka stands strong, modeling forgiveness as the only true path to freedom.

Together, Bump, Millie, and Oka fight against all odds to create a sustainable ranch, all while learning that the important lessons of their pasts can be used to build a beautiful future.

I would not recommend this book. The author gets into Native ceremonies at the end of book. I don't think acceptance of this is okay for a ? christian book.

Rape, lie by omission, marriage and a move from Mississippi to Colorado during the 1940's result in a compelling book of love and endurance. Once I got into the book it was hard to put down.

When Mountains Move is the sequel to Into the Free by Julie Cantrell. I have not yet read the Into the Free, but it did not interfere with my enjoyment of the story of Millie and her new husband Bump. These two leave their families and friends in Mississippi and head to Colorado, for a ranch they've never even seen before. Millie works so hard not just to help her beloved Bump build the ranch, but also to hide a horror from her past. But her past keeps rearing it's ugly head in her present. I enjoy Julie Cantrell's writing. She creates characters that are flawed, funny, and beautiful. I enjoyed getting to know Millie and Bump, while following their adventures in Colorado.

I voluntarily reviewed this book that I received from The Fiction Guild.

I was privileged to read Into the Free previously when it was first published and picked it up as a freebie on my kindle. Now getting a chance four years later to read the sequel to that amazing tale was brilliant and I was amazed how much of the previous book came right back to me. It would also not be recommended to read this book without first reading Into the Free as the two really do go hand in hand and When Mountains Move wouldnt make as much sense without the previous knowledge of the first book.

Into the Free told the story of Millie - growing up in a less than stellar family situation and despite adversity and abuse - maturing into a strong young woman. It was a fitting second chapter of her story begun in the first book which rounded off the character nicely.

This is a true epic sage to savour and enjoy. Once started you wont be able to put it down - trust me

Thanks again to the Fiction Guild for providing a complimentary copy for review - all opinions are my own.

When Mountains Move is the sequel to Into the Free and although I hadnt read it first, it had no negative impact on this story.

Julie Cantrell has such giftedness in transporting the reader back into the time and setting of the story. Her writing style is beautiful and has made her a favorite author of mine since The Feathered Bone.

At times, Id forget Millie was only a teenager even while she was a wife and mother. Her attitude at times, was lightyears ahead of where Id see a girl her age. Yet other times, her thoughts and actions very much resembled someone with less life experience.

Her grandmother, Oka is delightful and full of wisdom. I absolutely loved her and their relationship is tender.

Bumps responsible and devoted love is heartwarming. Each character is intricately woven through the story. I enjoyed the had many twists and turns all while rooting for Millie.

A beautiful story of love, family and forgiveness. And, most importantly, redemption.

I received When Mountains Move from Thomas Nelson Publishers and The Fiction Guild and all opinions expressed are purely my own.
