Of course, only the writers of the Scriptures were inspired. I used that word to make a point. This book and Piper's 'Desiring God' are both so incredibly revealing of some fundamental truths in God's Word and so needed today that only the Holy Spirit could have moved former Pastor Piper to write these two life changing books. His application of Scripture on the subject matter is outstanding and those who have "ears to hear" will be blessed beyond my ability to articulate. Every Christian SHOULD read this magnificent book!

How can they be so calm and thankful in situations that make us want to get angry or scared, and lose hope? In this book, John Piper explains what true joy is. Joy in God. He explains that while joy is a gift, it is something we must fight for. In the world we live in, with all the things competing for our attention and adoration, not to mention our natural sinful nature, we must fight for joy in God. Piper goes on to explain how we fight for that joy.
This is one of those books that changed my thinking. It opened my eyes to something I never understood, and I didnt know that I didnt understand it. I knew that I was to love the Lord with my heart, mind, and soul, but this fight for joy brings it into focus. This is how we get there. Piper even lists some practical ways to find joy in places you dont normally look.
I would suggest that every Christian read this book. It found me just when I needed it to, and I think the same would be said for so many others that read it.
