JamesAlbany,NYAge: 45-54Gender: male3 Stars Out Of 5interesting, but morally ambiguous and confusingJuly 25, 2013JamesAlbany,NYAge: 45-54Gender: maleQuality: 3Value: 1Meets Expectations: 1I'm writing this from a first hand knowlege of alzheimer's disease, as my mom currently suffers from it, although she is not yet in the severe stage that Sam, the title character is in.... The story is one that draws you in, because of the many story lines that occur simultaneously. You hope that it will all end with a clear message of hope, as the title indicates. There are some things to feel good about in the end. And it does show some unflinching difficulties faced by both believers in Christ Jesus and those who do not, and their various coping mechanisms and points of view (not a sappy treatment of life glossed over by unreality)...however, the moral messages are confusing. The evils of legalism and financial corruption within faith circles is clearly underlined as wrong (as they have been many times before), as well it should be, and temptations in an overwhelmed marriage , the issue of boundaries are addressed (not very well, though) ...but some important things are left unaddressed: the second main character, Sam's daughter (the caregiver) makes a huge family decision without consulting her husband (because she can't get him on the phone?), she has no pastoral guidance throughout the film and all of her trials (big mistake, major important part of every christian life), and her daughter's clearly troublesome and deceptive boyfriend, who endangers her and Sam is allowed back into the family during some emotionalism surrouding the 9-11 tragedy....those of us who follow Christ make our mistakes, but many of our mistakes have more to do with not allowing God's Word and good, godly pastoral ledership to guide us (those not bound by legalism or liberalism, but subjecting themselves to Christ and His Word). That message was lacking. And that is the bottom line... PG for adult topics and mild lang., the film kept my interest once, but it's not a 'keeper'...I believe several people rated it at 4 or 5 stars because of the emotions that it definately does stir, but without strong, clear messages morally, it becomes just an emotional experience, no spiritual building up (edifying, as God puts it in the Bible).... Hope this review is helpful. God bless you all in your search for truth and love. Here's a big hint: His Name is JESUS. Take Him at His Word and be blessed. Jim : )
ShamooWoodstock ontario CanadaAge: 55-65Gender: male5 Stars Out Of 5Surprising interestingApril 21, 2012ShamooWoodstock ontario CanadaAge: 55-65Gender: maleQuality: 4Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5What I liked about the movie was it showed that the Christians do not have perfect lives. They have their struggles also. My father in law had Alzheimer's and the was pretty accurate. Many lessons taught in this dvd. It may not seem like it at first but keep watching and I believe when you have finished watching it you will be glad you bought it.

PolillaLynnNova ScotiaGender: Female2 Stars Out Of 5a disappointmentFebruary 28, 2012PolillaLynnNova ScotiaGender: FemaleQuality: 5Value: 3Meets Expectations: 2This movie is corny, whiny, misrepresents God's character a few times, and has such a pat ending that it was comical. The acting of several of the characters was stiff and uncomfortable, but my husband and I forced ourselves to watch it all the way through because of the main topic.
There were too many dramas going on in this movie at one time so that the subject of Alzheimer's was not addressed as well as I expected or that it could have been. Having said that, I will add that there were good points made concerning the actual disease, but not enough focus was on how the family dealt with it.
Momof3MontanaAge: 25-34Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Great!February 23, 2012Momof3MontanaAge: 25-34Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5I love how this movie points out how some Christians are so busy do good things for God that they miss out on reflecting Jesus to their families and those they work with. I love Dove approved movies and this one was excellent, too.
