What's in the Bible? #10: Jesus is the Good News! – takes your family through the 400 years between the Old and New Testaments, and then shares about the life and ministry of Jesus Christ from the books of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. Funny and meaningful, Vischer also shares the Gospel and encourages children (and parents) who don’t know Jesus to do so – and reach out to a friend or Pastor to experience God’s saving grace. Ellen5 Stars Out Of 5Fellowship WIth ChristDecember 12, 2014EllenQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Why were there 400 years between the Old and New Testaments? What is meant by "the fullness of time?"
What 2 things happened to help spread the Good News? What 1 other thing helped?
How is Jesus related to the Abrahamic covenant? Why are 4 versions of the Gospel needed? What are the "synoptic" Gospels? What does the 4th Gospel focus on?
The first of these two 25-minute episodes covers those things and more. It also tells about 4 groups of Jews, to gain context for the story of Jesus.
Episode 2 gives the story of Jesus. In simple language, Vischer explains who Jesus was, what He did, what happened to Him, and why.
It is gentle, especially for very young children, in not telling about the vicious physical treatment including scourging Jesus received, yet it does not shortchange the story. Vischer puts the four Gospels together to tell about Jesus as the Passover Lamband also what it means for us.
There is one serious error in the animation: a loaf of leavened bread is on the table at the Passover meal, and Jesus takes leavened bread and calls it His body.
Jews carefully removed all yeast and other leavening, which symbolize sin, before the Passover, since the Jewish Feast of Unleavened Bread begins the next day.
Unleavened bread symbolizes purity, and is the symbol for Jesus, and its what He took and broke and called His body. That is why churches use unleavened bread for communion (the Eucharist) today.
Despite that oversight, however, this is perhaps the best telling of the story of Jesus I have ever heard.
Bonus Features are "Show outtakes," "Michael's Deleted Scene," and "A Pirates Guide to Church History" (a segment from an earlier volume).
Cindy NavarroCullman, ALAge: 55-65Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5I wish these had been around when I was a child!December 3, 2014Cindy NavarroCullman, ALAge: 55-65Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5I loved this DVD. Phil Vischer has a way to reach kids on a level they will understand, yet still provide entertainment for the adults who are watching. Even more than the entertainment, though, is the wonderful lessons learned. Actually, there was even one thing taught from an angle I had never considered. At least I had never given it much thought. There were also a few things that I did not realize until I was an adult, so it is refreshing to see kids learning about the Bible, the significance of events, and the authors of the books. I highly recommend this DVD, and have no doubt that the others are also top-notch. It is recommended for 1st-4th grade...but I enjoyed it immensely.

Get them all!December 3, 2013L3momAge: 35-44Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5My kids (8, 5, 4 yrs old) and I love all of these videos! They are full of so much information. All of us have learned so much. The shows are funny for both kids and adults. We have all the old testament and are starting on the NT. We watched all the OT (in order) on a road trip from TX to CA. It was great to walk right through the OT and get more then what a normal children's Bible will share. I can't say enough great things about these shows.
