In DVD #5, Buck Denver and cast take us through the next books of the Bible: 1 and 2 Samuel. The two episodes focus on three of the most influential kings of Israel (Saul, David, and Solomon). And the Tricky Bits section defines the Trinity (after we learn that the Spirit of the Lord fell upon David). The DVD highlights God's promise to David and how the promise impacts the salvation story. We also see what happens when David (and the other kings) sin against God. Kids learn that there are consequences for sin! Bonus short: "The Boy Who Cried Melon Monkey," A lesson about honesty. Approximate running time: 60 minutes.

Ellen5 Stars Out Of 5This Is No Lightweight SeriesNovember 28, 2014EllenQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5This series is fun and full of good teaching but it doesnt avoid tough issues. It encourages viewers to think.
Volume 5 has two 25-minute episodes. It reviews Adam and Eve, the Fall through the history of the Judges. We learn what a prophet is, and hear about Samuel, Saul, and Sauls disobedience. We learn about Samuel anointing David, David killing the giant Goliath, Saul hunting David attempting to kill him, and Saul death and the deaths of Abner and Ishbosheth.
Episode 2 gives the story about Davids adultery with Bathsheba, their consequences, Absalom, the death of King David, and Solomons building of the first Temple.
But far beyond just hearing the story, questions are asked to help us apply these lessons to our own lives.
Who is the Spirit of God, and what is the Trinity? Do you want to be part of Gods Rescue Plan? How did Kings Saul, David, and Solomon handle their sins differently?
"So as you grow up," Phil Vischer, creator of this series says, "youre going to make mistakes too. Which king do you want to be like?"
Amazing, that despite some tough material (murder, adultery, tragedy) this teaching is fun: a happy troup of puppets, with a pirate puppet who sings from his submarine, a cowboy puppet singing about the Philistines, Popsicle puppets in a marvelous comparison of Saul as Darth Vader and David as Luke Skywalker from the Star Wars movies. There is also another superb song by the Bentley Brothers, this time about David.
All other songs are written by Phil Vischer, the creator of VeggieTales, who also invented the VeggieTales Silly Songs.
Bonus features are "The Boy Who Cried 'Melon Monkey': A Lesson about Honesty" a funny and valuable tale about a boy whose job was "to guard the melon herds," and the humorous "Show Outtakes" and also "Michaels Deleted Scene" with the boy in the mini-vans backseat saying, "I will not participate in this charade!"
Inventive, interesting, and funny.
Among the best series ever made on the Bible, "Whats in the Bible" sparkles.
mojudge5 Stars Out Of 5son is loving it!January 14, 2013mojudgeQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5My kids (6 & 5) loved this! Good information, friendly format. The kids really thought it was funny when the Bible story switched David & Goliath to Luke Skywalker David v Darth Vader Goliath! They totally got that it was *pretend* and thought it was a really funny comparison!
