Larry5 Stars Out Of 5What's in the Bible? #4 Battle for the Promised Land. DVDFebruary 24, 2015LarryWe teach 2nd grade Sunday School and thought the DVD might be oversimplified and our children would be bored or think it was too silly, but to our surprise, they loved it. We're looking forward to purchasing more of these once we get more information from our Children's Ministry Pastor about upcoming lessons. I would highly recommend this series to others who are looking to enhance their teaching lessons.
Ellen5 Stars Out Of 5Another Bright Light from Phil VischerSeptember 12, 2014EllenQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5In teaching the book of Joshua, it helps to have a pirate in a hot air balloon who needs to go to the bathroom. In Volume 4 of "What's in the Bible," two 25-minute segments take us through the books of Joshua, Judges and Ruth.
After PART ONE reminds us of what was covered in the first 3 Volumes, we learn about the Historical books, and learn about some hard questions: There is a lot of killing in Joshua, so does that mean God wanted people to die? What must we do if we are to follow God?
PART TWO tells us why God placed the Israelites in Canaan, and we learn about the cycle of apostasy. Then Ruth's story is told using Popsicle Puppets and humor.
"Battle for the Promised Land" is Volume 4 in Phil Vischer's (the creator of VeggieTales) new 13-Volume DVD series for all ages, though it is marketed mostly toward children. Yet there is something for grown-ups and also for youth: A song with the "Bentley Brothers" singing the names of the Judges, a greater understanding of why the Israelites went wrongwhat they did and how it caused harm. "Tricky Bits," whether or not an iguana was a cause of death in the book of Ruth, and some of the finest puppet-work and teaching combine together to make this the friendliest introduction to the first three Historical books ever created.
Vischer excels in making them enjoyable without avoiding challenging issues.
BONUS FEATURES include "Quacky's Questions: 'What is Love?'" and also "Outtakes" and "Michaels Deleted Scene."
I began by getting these from the library then I bought the entire series, and I plan to review them all.
