SemmieAge: 35-44Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Intense ThrillerJuly 1, 2024SemmieAge: 35-44Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5** "God doesn't always call us to understand, though, does he? But he always calls us to trust him." **
Colleen Coble joins forces with Rick Acker to deliver an incredible thriller with "What We Hide," a story of finding the truth and overcoming grief.
Savannah Webster teaches about antiquities at Tupelo Grove University, a school where her family has deep ties. Her sister Jess is even the CFO there. But when her soon-to-be-ex-husband Hez Webster shows up looking to start a Justice Center at the university, she's not too happy.
But when deadly occurrences begin to happen at the school, she must join forces with Hez to figure out what's happening, who is behind it, and what it has to do with the school's Willard Treasure antiquities collection.
Coble and Acker do an incredible job of creating a fast-paced, intense plot filled with twists and turns, leaving the reader guessing until the end, including a shocking ending. They also create delectable characters, including some old friends from Coble's Pelican Harbor series.
"What We Hide" also includes several great themes. In addition to themes of overcoming grief, finding forgiveness and seeking the truth, it also reminds us that nothing is impossible with God; power of second chances; trusting God; bringing evil to light; and masking one's true nature ("handsome on the outside and rotten under the facade").
Five stars out of five.

GrandaddyAAge: Over 65Gender: male5 Stars Out Of 5TreasureNovember 1, 2024GrandaddyAAge: Over 65Gender: maleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5To play off the title, what a ride! Colleen Coble and Rick Acker have done a great job of combining their talents to write an exciting story that kept me turning pages trying to finish before bedtime. I hated to put it down but the characters were still running around in my head. I was not expecting the way the book ended, which was a pleasant surprise. I guess I should have known it would be that way with Tupelo Grove University being right next to Pelican Harbor. I remember some other stories set in that area that I enjoyed. Savannah and Hez were a challenge to each other with their separation and then their longing to reconnect but their failure to share openly. I finished the story wondering what else remained hidden that would eventually come to light. A big part of the story was about the Willard Treasure, but the real treasure seemed to be in the relationships. If you love suspense, you should read this one and be prepared for the next book from these authors.
