Publisher's Description

Two recovery specialists.
One murder.
A hunt for the Dutchman's Lost Gold Mine becomes a race of survival.

Former Army MP Landry Parker fell into the recovery specialist role quite by accident—to help her ailing father. Now that she’s on her own, she is determined to prove herself and honor her family legacy.

After being shot in the line of duty, former police officer Nickolai Baptiste became a recovery specialist, and he’s good at his job—maybe even the best.

A potential client pits Landry and Nickolai against one another to find the Dutchman’s Lost Gold Mine map that was stolen from her murdered husband, and the potential payday is too enticing to pass up. The trail takes them from New Orleans to Weaver’s Needle in Arizona where legend claims the mine is hidden. Landry and Nickolai are no strangers to adventure, but the unlikely partners quickly discover there’s someone after the treasure and there are those who want to ensure the lost mine in Arizona’s Superstition Mountain stays lost forever.

Can Landry and Nickolai work together despite their distrust of each other to save the legend before more innocent lives are lost? Will they find the real treasure isn’t the gold, but something more valuable. . .true love and understanding?

I received this book a long time ago to review, but had not timeline so it kept getting pushed back and I honestly wasnt that excited to review it. Now I am wondering why I waited to so long.

This book was one I couldnt put down and easily read. It had an almost Indiana Jones feel to it.

The hurt and wounds each character carried was very real and something we can relate to.

The mystery surrounding the missing map had me guessing until the end. I will say there were chapters that I didnt really understand until it all came together at the end and found myself irritated when I got to those chapters and they interrupted the other story. But overall I really liked this book a lot.

A copy of this book was given to me. All opinions are my own.

This review was written for Weaver's Needle - eBook.
This is the first book by Robin Caroll that I have read and I was quite impressed. I love inspirational romantic suspense and have quite a few authors that are my favorites; Ms. Caroll will join that list of favorite authors. The book was well-written, seemingly well-researched (though I don't know much about Apache tribe and its traditions and beliefs), fast-paced with a bit of romance thrown in. The book also had a strong thread of faith woven into the storyline which I appreciated. Anyone who enjoys contemporary romantic suspense would love this novel.

The plot is action-packed and left me breathless at moments. The characters are flawed but deeply layered with hurts and mistakes that haunt them. Landry comes off at first as a know-it-all who is prickly just because she can be. She needs a large amount of money to keep her recovery company afloat and she wants to do this for her father's legacy. Nickolai is a retired cop now working in the recovery industry who first acts like an arrogant jerk, full of himself and his abilities. He needs a large amount of money to take his younger sister out of the hospital into a halfway house that is believed to be able to help her reintegrate into the real world. A wealthy patron hires them both and pits them against each other to recover a map to a legendary gold mine that was stolen when the patron's husband is murdered. Throw in a handful of possible suspects for the murder with Landry and Nick's developing feelings for each other, and we have a pretty awesome read that can't be put down.

I received a copy of this book from Barbour Publishing via NetGalley. I was not required to write a favorable review. All comments and opinions are solely my own.

"Unless you get one of those miracles they're always talking about in church. I don't see how you'll be able to keep the business open into spring."

Landry Parker has struggled to extend her father's legacy by owning and operating a recovery business. When a unique opportunity presents itself that will put her company back on its feet, she responds; never realizing that the request is pitting her in the middle of a dangerous competition.

Nickolai Baptiste is pleasantly surprised when his younger sister becomes a candidate for a half-way house, but the expense for the experimental psychotherapeutic program is substantially beyond his budget. Entering into an agreement that has all of his former law enforcement guards up, places this cop-turned-recovery-specialist in an uncomfortable position, notwithstanding the stubborn woman that has been handed the exact same contract; to find the Duchman's Lost Gold Mine Map worth one million dollars and evidently a man's life.

Treachery and obscure ancient mystique follow Landry and Nickolai deep into Arizona's Superstition Mountains, where a lot of unknowns await them, including the response of their traitorous hearts.

Landry Parker is former military police who retired to help her father in his recovery business. After his death she encounters problems on the business end that make a potential $50,000 recovery fee seem like a lifeline.

Nicolai Baptiste retired from the New Orleans police department after suffering a shooting that would have sidelined him to a desk. He is the guardian for his 17 year old sister who is eligible for an experimental program that will cost $40000 for the first year, making the $50,000 seem like the perfect solution.

Winifred Winslet is the widow of a wealthy business man. Her husband Bartholemew was murdered as he attempted to deposit a map to the famed Dutchman's Lost Gold Mine in Arizona at his bank that he just paid $1,000,000 to obtain. The detective in charge is only investigating the murder so Winifred tells Landry and Nicolai that the first one to locate and retrieve the map will be paid a $50,000 recovery fee. Two competing investigators should increase the odds of locating the map.

Landry and Nicolai both end up in Apache Junction, Arizona close to the Superstition Mountains and the rock formation Weaver's Needle where many have searched for the lost mine for over a hundred years. The seller is supposed to be a descendant of the woman who cared for the dying Dutchman who drew the map. Part of the legend is that he was cursed by the Thunder God who gave the Apache the treasure within the mine. Local Indians say that secret warrior shaman protect it. Many things start happening to Landry and Nicolai that are too coincidental to think they are not targets. Are they victims of the curse or has the murderer come to search for the mine and wants them out of the way? Will working together make them safer and help them to locate the man who has the map? There are many twists as they search and as they get to know each other competition turns to cooperation.

This is the first time I have read any of Robin Caroll's books. I liked her writing style. She develops her characters and the plot nicely however I was bothered by the shaman activity being presented as just a part of the Apache culture and compatible with faith in God. I received a copy of this book free of charge through the publisher and Net Galley and the opinions are my own.

Landry and Nickolai, independent recovery specialists, were challenged to locate and return a valuable, treasure map. This challenge placed them in direct competition with each other. Was this a chance competition or a divine appointment?

This book began with a competition, various challenges and adventures filled with danger and valuable rewards. There was a murder mystery and a cross-country treasure hunt, complete with an antiquated map.

Christianity was part of the ongoing storyline as characters experienced their own individual journeys of faith. Native Americans, along with their unique customs and culture, played a big part in this book. Sacred rituals and beliefs were explored, explained and integrated well into the storyline.

Themes of forgiveness, cooperation, compassion, friendship, second chances and good versus evil were well represented throughout this book. Each of the main characters had meaningful, deeply caring relationships with their respective best friends.

This book was filled with good storytelling, memorable characters and exciting adventures.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from Barbour Publishing and was under no obligation to post a review. I also purchased a kindle copy of this book.
