My girls are very close in age, so when I was ready to start our oldest in kindergarten, I wanted something that would be appropriate for more than one age level. I also wanted a curriculum that would be biblically based and fun.
I love the Weaver Interlock program because it uses the beginning chapters of Genesis to build an educational foundation for preschool and kindergarten. We learned about how perfect and intentional God's creation of the world was through music, crafts, and a variety of activities. Our children gained knowledge about the world around them, while growing in their love of learning.
This program utilizes a 3-day teaching schedule, leaving two days a week for field trips, shopping, doctors appointments, play dates, etc. It offers short interactive lessons that teach social studies, science, language arts, math, music, art, and more. Kids learn through cross-curricular hands-on activities centered on a common theme. For example, one day they might read Genesis 1:11-13; sing "He Plants Me Like a Seed"; pull weeds in the garden; and play the language arts game "Plant Concentration."
We supplemented the program with 123 Read! for phonics, which created a solid curriculum for preschool and kindergarten. It was simple enough so that our 3-year-old could participate, but academically thorough enough so we didn't feel like we were holding back our kindergarten-age daughter.
