Tomo is a pet raccoon, and his life is a simple one consisting of being friends with an old martial arts instructor and eating noodles. Lots of noodles. That is until a young girl comes into his life in the form of the old man's grand-daughter, Hana. Having just lost her mother, and having just flown to California from Japan, Hana doesn't feel ready for the new challenges that life has given her. But if she only knew what lies ahead! Trouble fitting in to her new culture and school pales to the strange happenings going on around San Francisco, and when reality starts to seem more like fantasy it can be a lot for an eighth-grader to take in at once! At least Hana has her grandfather and Tomo on her side...but how much help can an old man and a pet raccoon be? Recommended f or ages 11 to 13.

If you've ever browsed through the comic/manga section at your local bookstore, you know that most of the content is highly inappropriate. I was so pleased when I saw this series that I ordered all of them at once. My kids loved them, but unfortunately the series is unfinished. *Spoiler* Book no. 7 ends on a sad note, and my kids were so upset that I wrote to the publisher and asked them if they will continue the series. They responded to my email that publishing has been unexpectedly held up and the next book should be ready in 2012. I will definitely order it then!

These books are a favorite for all of them. They find it funny and are engrossed in the tale that is both edifying and biblical. All 4 of them love this series; I purposely space out purchasing a new book just to use it as a reward.

It's like I'm one of the characters when I'm reading it. It has lots of action. Hana is a cool girl. I'd recommend it for kids who like to read comic books.
