A Resource To "Rise" In Hard Times
July 31, 2015
Holly Wagner in her new book, Warrior Chicks published by Revell gives us Rising Strong When Life Wants to Take You Down.
From the Back Cover: There is a lot in life we cannot controla cancer diagnosis, the choices our children make, a spouse who leaves, disappointments in our career, a broken heart. But in those tragedies, big and small, we still have a choice:
Lie down and give in or stand up and fight.
In this inspiring call to arms against victimhood, Holly Wagner challenges women to enlist as Warrior Chicks. She shows women that they are beautiful just the way they are, they are destined to be overcomers in this life, and that the battle is already won for us. She shares the secrets of being equipped to fight the good fight and do more than just survive. As one who has battled many things in her life, including breast cancer, Holly shows how you can be either a casualty of the pain or a warrior who overcomes.
So whats it going to be?
Holly Wagner found out that Proverbs 31, rise while it is yet night has nothing to do with the time of day you get up. Ms. Wagner found out that it has everything to do with being a woman who rises in the midst of hard times. When darkness and chaos abound, the woman, the warrior you rise. This is what Warrior Chicks is all about. In eleven chapters Ms. Wagner takes women on a journey to see that no woman has been called to be a casualty. All women have been called to be warriors and that no one can take what is thrown at them and give up. Warrior is an attitude. There is even a study guide at the end. It would also be a great gift for friends and family so that they be helped as well.

Disappointments, heartbreak, choices, consequencesall parts of life which can take you down. Given the chance, would you lie down and accept defeat or stand up and fight? In her new book, author Holly Wagner helps to put on the boxing gloves and stand strong. Written in short snippets of positive advice, Warrior Chicks tackles relationships, illness, stressall with the goal of overcoming challenges to accept and live a beautiful life
A PENNY FOR MY THOUGHTS:
Sharing her own obstacles in life, Holly Wagner writes as a positive life-coach for demanding ringside events in life. Though not written in a style conducive to reading in longer periods, I found I would read it in short little pieces, giving me time to flip through and digest the shorter thoughts shared. Not necessarily tied directly to scripture, faith was evident throughout the various messages (encouraging younger women, positive thinking, courageous attitudes). Definitely a good book to have in your corner when life gets tough!

To say I liked this book would be such an understatement. I loved everything about the book, from the writing itself, the word choices, the relevant stories, even down to the way the book is formatted. With quick short sections, its like getting a proverb dose of wisdom in every page and thats a major plus for the busy woman!
Warrior Chicks is for every woman who has ever had to endure hardship, struggles, or pain. Its for any woman who has been hurt and had to fight her way back from depression, for the woman who needs a reminder that she is more than a soldier, shes a warrior.
Its like having a personal encourager, a best friend cheerleader, a fan club president speaking words of affirmation to you. Holly Wagner is author extraordinaire! She has a way of writing that includes deep, challenging stories. Oftentimes, I see the same stories used repeatedly in other books. The stories are good but almost overused. Holly Wagner uses stories and examples that are fresh and applicable driving home the lesson shes teaching.
Warrior Chicks is on my top 10 best reads and its a book that I would recommend to every woman in whatever stage of battle training she may be in; whether shes a new recruit or a seasoned warrior. Warrior Chicks is a book that stands heads above the rest.
Open the cover to Warrior Chicks, and it is immediately apparent that this is not like every other book that you have encountered on the subject of following God through hard circumstances. Holly Wagner writes in consecutive and vivid word pictures, and although I have never met her, I can predict that this is also how she would speak if we were face to face over a cup of tea.
A ministry wife and mother, Holly received a cancer diagnosis that changed her life, for in the midst of her fight for survival, she discovered a grit and tenacity that applies to more than just the life and death struggle against disease.
Truly, we are all in a daily struggle to be a winner not a whiner;
to rise and shine, when the natural reaction would be to fall and fade;
to focus on the goal of healthy living, inside and out;
to successfully pass the baton of faith on to the next generation to the next person God brings across our path.
This warrior mindset is only possible in Christ, and only with the conscious, stamped-on-your-eyeballs-awareness that the Christian life is one of war-time camaraderie with a living body of fellow believers who are also fellow warriors. We prepare ourselves for battle not with the pumps and pantyhose of weak theology and silly-girl excuses, but with the armor of God which rivets our thinking to truth, protects our hearts from distractions, shields our souls from faithless fear, and encases us in a righteousness that transcends our own.
THIS DAY. THIS BATTLE. Our Commanding Officer reveals His plans in His own good time, and then provides faith to carry them out. We, as warriors, follow best when we are properly trained, vigilant, and seeking to do more for Gods glory, for it is this that guards against a victim mentality. Rather than asking, Why? when disaster strikes, the Warrior Chick has a better question on her lips:
What do I need to learn?
Who can I help?
How can I help them?
Rich in scriptural exhortation and biblical stories that put flesh on the bones of her argument, Holly Wagner has thrown down the challenge: Lie down and give in or stand up and fight as the overcomer that God enables you to be.
So, whats it going to be?
This book was provided by Revell, a division of Baker Publishing Group, in exchange for my review. I am disclosing this in accordance with the Federal Trade Commissions 16 CFR, Part 255 : Guides Concerning the Use of Endorsements and Testimonials in Advertising.
This book was a present. I judged it by the color and the title and decided I didn't like it. Well, I was wrong. This book is awesome. So, I decided to buy it for my mother, in Spanish, and bought two more in English for my sisters. This should say a lot about this book.
It has helped me understand that no matter what, we should keep praying and growing in God. That we should stay in our post and not leave it unattended. God has put us there for a reason. That there are soldiers and there are warriors.
It is full of examples of other Warrior Chicks that have gone through a lot. We tend to avoid certain battles, certain fights, but there are days that the battle, the fight finds us and we have to put on our armor and face it with grace, love and of course lots of patience and prayers.
