Publisher's Description

In this prequel to Flee the Night—the first book in Susan May Warren’s critically acclaimed Team Hope series—Lacey Galloway leads a rather predictable life as a contractor for the Department of Defense. But news that Sergeant First Class Jim Micah is missing in action leads her on a dangerous trek overseas to rescue the man who secretly captured her heart.

Although her DOD connections quickly cut through the red tape, she also enlists the help of her ex-boyfriend and Micah’s best friend, Lieutenant John Montgomery. As they hatch a covert plan to find and rescue Micah, Lacey’s feelings are once again torn between the two men.

Filled with romance and adventure, this twisty tale will hold you captive to the very last page.

It's been awhile since I read Ms. Warren's Team Hope series, and then I found this novella hidden in some obscure part of my kindle--unread. Ms. Warren is one of my favorite adventure and romance authors so I had to catch up on a book, um, novella, that somehow I missed.

Even back in 2011 Ms. Warren wrote brilliantly with characters that are real, and ones you care for. Now I do remember that the Team Hope series was one of my least favorite series of Warrens (though I can't remember why, and this urges me to pull my copies of those books out of the bookcase and find out the rest of the story, because yes, Lacey goes in to rescue Micah and his team, but there isn't a satisfactory ending in this novella, mainly because it's the prequel and basically the beginning chapters of a series that weren't included in the books.

If you are catching up on Ms. Warren's books and the Team Hope series are on your to-read pile, then read this novella first. It can be read in an hour or two and you'll know the beginning. Plenty of action, lots of adventure, and my heart broke for Micah. A real hero.

I got a copy of this novella from Netgalley. All opinions are my own.

Waiting for Dawn is the bittersweet story of how Lacey Galloway, PhD and math geek, went undercover in the war-torn Middle East of 1991 to rescue Jim Micah, who she thinks might be in love with her_ Accompanying her is John Montgomery, Lacey's ex-boyfriend and Micah's best friend since high school. Only John doesn't seem to be acting like an ex-boyfriend, more like a current boyfriend_

Those who have read Flee the Night will know how the story ends (well, this is a prequel!). For those who haven't yet had that pleasure, I won't spoil it for you. Suffice to say that I heard rumours of a novella-length prequel several years ago and never found it, despite scouring the internet. Well, here it is, and although it was a short read, it is probably worth the wait.

Those who have read the rest of the Team Hope series will enjoy this for the background it provides to Micah's character. Those who haven't read the other books have a treat ahead, as these were the books that got me hooked on Christian Romantic Suspense. Read them in order: Waiting for Dawn, Flee the Night, Escape to Morning and Expect the Sunrise.

Thanks to Tyndale House and NetGalley for providing a free ebook to review.

This novella is a prequel to Flee The Night Jim Micah has loved Lacey Galloway for a decade. The day he introduced her to his best friend, John Montgomery, will always be his biggest mistake. John was always out for adventure and Lacey was like that too. As a Green Beret out on a mission, Jim and two others have been taken captive. Thoughts of ay. Lacey and remembering Psalm 86 have kept him going. Lacey figured John and her were over for eight months now when she gets the news that Jim is missing in action. She pulls strings to get to Turkey. From there John and Wild Will put a mission together with Lacey to find and rescue Micah. Lacey keeps hoping Micah will say anything to give her hope he loves her. He wants to but then John is always in the picture. Finally something happens that takes all hope away. The story does not end in this book, it only begins it seems.
