What are the key issues facing black women in America today? Does God's Word offer guidance in how to navigate the realities and difficulties posed by those issues? After surveying black women across America to determine which topics are heaviest on their hearts, the authors of Our Voices present a very personal and practical overview. Ten women share with the reader their journeys and what they have learned from God's Word about His perspective on key issues facing them as black women. This book provides a powerful challenge to the reader to walk in obedience to God's Word, amid a culture that is bent on rebellion and that beckons us to do likewise.

Bro simonNorth Carolina5 Stars Out Of 5A must to ALL womenAugust 17, 2011Bro simonNorth CarolinaQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5To really let you know what I think if this book consider this, I have never written a review on any book until now. As a Pastor and a man, although this book is suppose to be geared toward women, I could not put it down. I have built a decent theological library through CBD, therefore I have many books, this is the first book I enjoyed so much that I order 10 more just to give away. The women in the book do an incredible job in dealings with the issues women face through the lenses of the holy scriptures. In short they make the bible relevant in every facet of life. Although the title indicates it deals with black women I would recommend this book to all women, it's a book rich in wisdom and practical application based upon the word of God.

Are you a Christian African-American living in America ? If so , then this book is designed especially for you as it discusses the issues that Black women face everyday in American society.
It discusses topics from Racism, Sexuality, Marriage, Singledom, Solo Parenting, The Church, Finances, Health, Spirituality and Walk with God and last but not least , the most important part of you - your Self-Esteem.
For me personally growing up in New Zealand, I have not had the opportunity to meet alot of Black women but I have always admired when Ive watched TV, read in a book , heard word of mouth about the way Black women handle themselves in Church, it is so darn inspiring as they get up there , sing in their amazing full-blown gospel voices, religiously worship god as one big happy family and what I love most is that when they are in the lord's house - they always look so free......Think about the role models we have in the Black women community, we have Whoopi Goldberg, Tina Turner, Aretha Franklin, Janet Jackson, Queen Latifah. All amazing strong women in my eyes. Have you ever seen the movie "The Secret Life of Bees'' , for a glimpse of the power of a Black women in Christ - check that film out, its truly amazing.
Each chapter of the book, is presented with a verse and a quote by an outstanding Black women role model and then goes on to talk about the issues in a language that we all understand. What I truly love about books like these is that they more often than not include ancedotes of everyday women, just like you and me.
At the end of each chapter, for further help and information - it also includes a list of references that were used in that chapter and a list of recommended readings if there was something that sparked your lil lightbulb in the chapter.
This is the perfect gift for all African-American women , whether you be a christian or not. It would also make a great study book to use in a bible study.
