In a little over a century, the Pentecostal movement has traveled the globe and, either directly or indirectly, has impacted and influenced every quarter of Christendom. At its heart this movement bears witness to a contemporary experience of divine-human encounter in line with the prophetic claims of the Old Testament and the Pentecost testimony of the New. Indeed, this kind of encounter with the power, presence, and Spirit of God is transformative enough, at both personal and corporate levels, to evoke a new way of seeing the world and, with it, a new way of reading the Word.
In Voice, Word, and Spirit: A Pentecostal Old Testament Survey, professors Rickie Moore and Brian Peterson serve as deft guides, presenting thoughtful readers with an overview of the Old Testament that is explicitly engaged with the faith and practice of the charismatic spirituality and the academic scholarship that has been generated by this contemporary, global, Christian Pentecostal movement. Moore and Peterson invite students, lay readers, and pastors alike to approach Scripture with the expectation of encountering and being addressed by a Living Voice—flipping the primary goal of biblical study from us interpreting Scripture to Scripture interpreting us.
In addition to treating each Old Testament book individually, this textbook offers a brief chapter-length introduction to each of the four major book collections, as standardized in the Protestant Bible's arrangement of Old Testament Scriptures: 1) Pentateuch; 2) Historical Books; 3) Poetical Books; and 4) Prophets.

"This collaborative work of Brian Peterson and Rickie Moore is an impressive achievement in Old Testament scholarship. In less than 300 pages, they have surveyed the entire Hebrew Bible while taking seriously the biblical text, contemporary biblical scholarship, and the interpretive context of the Pentecostal movement. Voice, Word, and Spirit is a model for Christian biblical scholarship."
—Lee Roy Martin, Professor of Old Testament and Biblical Languages, Pentecostal Theological Seminary, Cleveland, TN; Editor of the Journal of Pentecostal Theology
"The so-called charismatization of world Christianity is now, with this book, being followed by what can be deemed as the Pentecostalization of OId Testament studies! In the hands of Peterson and Moore, the Hebrew Bible comes alive, read not only from their contemporary Pentecostal perspective but resounding with the echoes of the Acts outpouring of the Spirit that connect twenty-first-century questions and insights to the life and world of ancient Israel. Students of Scripture will experience afresh the first testament as never before."
—Amos Young, Professor of Theology and Mission, Fuller Theological Seminary, Pasadena, CA
"What a great title. What a great approach to the study of the Old Testament. And what a great starting point, in Daniel's willingness to learn from Babylonian scholarship while insisting on setting it in the context of what God says independently of that scholarship! Readers will appreciate an introduction to the Old Testament that takes seriously a Pentecostal approach to Scripture study and the Spirit's work among the people of God."
—John Goldingay, David Allen Hubbard Professor of Old Testament, Fuller Theological Seminary, Pasadena, CA
