March 22, 2017
In 31 Verses To Write On Your Heart, Liz Curtis Higgs presents us with not only a word-by-word studyof 31 Scripture verses to memorize, but alsocompanion prayers, memorization tips, and study guide questions for each verse.
She starts each lesson by explaining why this verse is important and relevant to our lives today; why we need to write in on our hearts. Then Liz uses 2-3 pages tobreak the verse down into individual words or phrases. Each segment of the verse is explained, anecdotes are shared, and wedecipher what this verse means to us personally. She then closes each lesson with a prayer and a memorization tip. All of the memorization tips are listed together at the back of the book for easy reference, along with a study guide containing two questions for each verse.
I love that you could use this book for personal study, daily devotions, or a group setting. It would also make a beautiful gift for anyone in your life who could use a little encouragement (can't everyone?). While I've always found verse memorization to be a daunting task, Liz makes it easier for me to be able to think of scriptures to get me through rough times during the day. I wouldn't dare say I've successfully memorized any of them, but thanks to her word study and stories, I can at least remember the gist of it enough to help me feel closer to God and less alone. That makes a huge difference to me. 5/5 stars.

31 Verses to Write on Your Heart would make a thoughtful addition to anyone's personal Bible study time! Liz Curtis Higgs is a renowned Bible teacher and women's speaker and has a special gift when it comes to explaining Scripture.
Breaking them down in an easy-to-understand format, each of the 31 verses chosen is expounded on and kept in context, even giving the Hebrew or Greek definitions of certain words. Various Bible translations are used to further enhance the study and understanding of each verse. I have found that using this format of word-for-word study helps me to more easily memorize verses.
I highly recommend Higgs' illuminative 31 Verses to Write on Your Heart! This is a valuable addition to devotional time. Included are 31 memorization tips, as well as a handy Study Guide and Notes section.

Liz is one of my favorite authors and she has a real talent for unpacking a lot of insights in just one verse of scripture. She brings that talent to this devotional book.
Liz dissects each verse section by section and provides a depth of meaning for each verse by examining the nuances of each word including different Bible versions, the original words in the Greek or Hebrew and the overall context for when it was written. At the end of each chapter she includes a short prayer, a tip to help you memorize scripture and encouragement to actually memorize it. She also encourages you to rewrite it with your favorite translation of the Bible.
Overall there are 31 different verses to take you through an entire month. Liz Curtis Higgs is a wonderful student of the word and a fabulous teacher. Youll be sure to gain much richer insights with her guiding the way than you would have ever caught by reading that same verse on your own.
It's a light, easy and quick daily read.

The longer I walk with Jesus, the more I realize that I absolutely need to fill my mind with truth found in His word. Daily we're inundated with the ways of the world and more often than not, those ways are in opposition to a life that God has called us to. I think about the simple truth found in the book of Romans:
"He works all things for good, to those who love God
and are called
according to His purpose."
As I reflect on this commonly shared verse, the word says ALL things - not just the things I deem good. But God in His kindness and wisdom, makes all things good. He seeks to accomplish His purposes in my life to conform me into the image of His Son through every circumstance.
This is why I LOVED Liz Curtis Higgs little book. 31 Verses to Write on Your Heart was a treasure found in a small package. Liz encourages the reader to commit God's word to memory and hide it in our hearts. The sections were short and she shared words of encouragement while breaking down the verses. In the back of the book, you could go even further by digging deeper & answering the study questions.
Although I was familiar with many of the verse because I have committed them to memory, I realized that some of my memory has gone bad and I can't immediately recite the verses. Liz's book helped to spur me on to be faithful once again to remind myself to commit His word to heart. I would definitely recommend this book since it really emphasizes the how memorizing scripture is so worthwhile!
A very encouraging read, I've read Liz's books for years and this new one is absolutely great! An important book as well. I know some Believer's in Christ who are so busy they do not read God's Word much. They do the Sabbath, Sunday thing, but Monday through Friday, they busy themselves with other things, and then when trouble and hardship comes into their life they do not find the hope and help that comes from God's Word.. I believe God's Word has to be a priority in every Christian's life to be close to God and be victorious.
As usual, Liz writes with great wit and humor. This time though, there is a serious side, as she leads the reader deeper into God's Word with a passion to help us memorize scripture. Throughout the book, it has various translations as reference for each scripture to help bring out the meaning for everyday life. At the end of each chapter there are "Tips for memorizing Scripture", and also prayers that connect you to God about the topic discussed. The chapters are short and sweet, so to speak. It could be read and meditated on during my lunch hour, or as I wait at the Doctors office.
I received this book from Blogging for Books in exchange for an honest review. I would highly recommend this book for those who are beginners at having a quite time with God, or for others who want a good devotional read.
