What sinister secret lies hidden in the town of Roanoke II? How did the entire population of this desert military instillation simply disappear? High-level Pentagon orders call J. D. Stanton, retired navy captain, back to active duty to investigate. Heading a crack team of military, government, and scientific experts, Stanton faces a bewildering scenario. Food still on dinner plates, gas nozzles still in the fuel ports of cars at the filling station . . . Whatever happened took the people of Roanoke II completely by surprise. But took them where? The answer -- far beyond what Stanton could conceive in his wildest dreams -- carries a steep price. For forces higher than the Pentagon are invested in the top-secret research of Roanoke II. And they'll protect it ruthlessly. LOVED IT. I have read everything I can find of his books and I always recommend this author to family and friends. This book is just so vivid, it is like I am part of the book.

Couldn't wait to read this sequel to "A Ship Possessed," but was somewhat disappointed by the end. Fascinating premise, and I loved the mix of science and theology--lots to think about, in terms of the reality of other dimensions. But way too much violence, bloodshed, and death. A big chunk of the story is just unremittingly depressing. Still, J.D. Stanton is great as the hero, as were Dole, Kaster, and Riggins. Appreciated Josie's character, but her dialogue was unnecessarily thick to the point of caricature, at times. In any case, Gansky is an excellent author and I've moved on to his "Dark Moon" (another compelling mix of science and spirituality).

WOW! This story was like a rollercoaster ride. A great mystery and well written. Good in it's own rite, but totally different than the first book in the series;'A Ship Possessed'.J.D.Stanton is a strong character;one of the best I've read about in awhile. More~More!!!! :)

Wonderfully written. Gansky is a fantastic story teller. His first book was great. This one is even better. Every piece of the story makes you compelled to find out what happens next. This story is unique and addresses a whole newconcept in fiction.

This was my most disappointing Gansky read. As usual, the characters are not too deep, but this is a thriller, so that's to be forgiven. Unfortunately, I kept tripping into the plot holes that an attentive editor could've filled in. The premise was great, and the resolution was satisfactory, but I had to work at avoiding the problems. Oh well.
