Betty BooperBritish Columbia, CanadaAge: Over 65Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Valley of the ShadowOctober 24, 2016Betty BooperBritish Columbia, CanadaAge: Over 65Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5This review was written for Valley of the Shadow - eBook.I have loved the series a great deal. It had history, mystery and intrigue which I enjoy reading. However, the 5th book in the series left me wondering what would happen next. I understood that there are books 6 & 7 in the series but I have not been able to find them. The books were listed in one of her books as being "Refiner's Fire" and "Forge of Freedom". Is the author going to allow CBD have them on e-book? I hope so.

M. Hochstetlers DAUGHTER OF LIBERTY, the first book in The American Patriot Series.
In it, Elizabeth Howard, the daughter of Loyalists had joined the Sons of Liberty as a spy. She used her Tory connections, including British major Jonathan Carleton, to gain information to support the rebel cause. Complications arise, not the least that these two opponents fall in love.
I still have the second, third, and fourth book to read, but I picked up the fifth in the series, Valley of the Shadow, American Patriot Series, hoping I would not have missed too much covered in the other books. I wasn't disappointed. This book stands on its own while also filling in the gaps.
In Valley of the Shadow, Elizabeth has been held captive aboard one of the prison ships. Like most of the other prisoners, she has suffered from the horrible conditions. Jonathan Carleton, now a Brigadier General, plans and executes a daring rescue. But these two star-crossed lovers have many a challenge before them.
As in her previous books, Hochstetler has done her research and is very knowledgeable about the era and maritime terminology and practices. The story is full of suspense and rich with emotion ranging from despair to triumph. It will keep readers turning the pages. Often, when I finish a book I'm frustrated because I want the story to continue. Fortunately, there is a book six to anticipate.
