Publisher's Description

A Lenten sod turning ceremony for a new water feature in the back garden of St. Aidan of the Wood Parish Church goes utterly pear-shaped when the upturned soil reveals a human skeleton. With Berdie Elliott at the helm, the whole of Aidan Kirkwood digs into the mystery. When the bones held life, just who was this person? Who is the mysterious contessa who arrives on the garden scene? And what does the young and beautiful Robin Derbyshire's wedding have to do with the grave? Unearth the answers in this fun spring romp.

This review was written for Up from the Grave.
A delightful cozy mystery with a fun cast of characters from a small English village! Berdie is like a younger version of Miss Marple, though happily married to her handsome ex-military turned vicar husband. Her friend Lillie, the choir director, makes a fun sidekick as they sneak around trying to solve the mystery ahead of the grumpy local policeman. Like a kinder, cleaner, gentler version of Agatha Raisin.

Looking forward to reading more of this series.

Cozy mystery fans will want to add this to their stack! Recommend!

This review was written for Up from the Grave.
This book is jovial yet practical, adventurous yet grounded, amusing yet chilling, knowledgeable yet ignorant, joyous yet solemn and romantic yet alone - lonely, but with GOD all of this is brought together and HE resolves it all and takes care of it all and resolves it. This is a story of a vicar's wife who, when they found a skeleton when they moved the ground for the church's fountain. She takes it upon herself to figure out who it is - why it is there and how it got there - This book keeps you guessing - it really does - I know they all say that - but this really does - GOD is in the book - that is what is important for me - you cannot go wrong when GOD is involved - the vicar's wife's friend helps her - and there are hijinks and serious times - this is a book of dichotomies and you will love every minute of it - and who it is will surprise you.. I rreceived a copy of this book from NetGalley for an honest review.

This novel is a delightful English cozy mystery. Our heroine is Berdie Elliot, the wife of the vicar at St. Aidan of the Wood Parish Church. When the ground turning ceremony for a new garden area at the church turns up human bones, Berdie goes to work to solve the mystery.

I love the characters in this novel. They are the quirky ones you'll only find in British novels. Berdie is tenacious, fining out who the strangers in the village are and why they've come. The dialog is great with frequent humor. Berdie and her friend Lillie are a riot.

This novel requires attention to detail. There are many characters and the plot is convoluted. There are many twists and turns and I must admit I got a little lost at the very end.

I received a complimentary digital copy of this book through The Book Club Network for the purpose of an independent and honest review.

Welcome to the Lenten sod turning ceremony to start the

building of a fountain at the St. Aidan of the Wood parish

church. What's this_.the ground turning unearths a little

skeleton!! Whose could it be? How did it get there? How long

    ago was it buried?

This is the perfect investigation for Berdie Elliott, the vicar's

wife, to undertake on her own volition. Of course, her best

friend Lillie needs to assist her. The antics of these two add

    humor throughout the story.

The characters of Aidan Kirkwood are delightfully quirky

presenting many suspects to the storyline. The dialogue

contains many English idioms and informal speech patterns.

The plot has many twists and turns to keep you guessing to

    the very end.

The book has mystery, conflict, suspense, danger, romance

and humor making the read very enjoyable.

I read this book as a stand alone. I understand it is the second book in the Berdie Elliot Mystery series.

I received this book from book fun.org. My opinion is my own.
