My small group and I are going through this book for Advent. The focus on the names of Jesus was what originally caught my eye, but I was pleasantly surprised to see how conveniently the book is structured for a group study. Each week of Advent starts with a group (or family) time of lighting the candle(s), responsive reading, Scripture, discussion questions, and a suggested carol to sing. Following this are 5 days of personal homework. The readings for each day are fairly brief, but each day ends with a challenge, a prayer, and Scripture for further study. We love the flexibility of the study in that members can dig as deeply as they choose into each day's homework. At the end of each week are further suggested activities that would be useful for families doing this study. For those new to celebrating Advent, the author begins with a few pages explaining the practice, and how to use the book. Because (as the author mentions), "we all suffer from soul amnesia, of forgetting who God is and what He has done for us...."(p.13), this book would be appropriate at any time of year. Very encouraging.

I'm always on the look out for great Advent devotionals to utilize with my family for the season. I didn't necessarily have any expectations for this book other than being family friendly.

CiuCiu devotes four weeks to the study of Jesus' names through Scripture. Each week begins with a celebration. This part consists of prayer, candle lighting, scripture, Q&A, and songs. Then each day provides a brief and simple study of a name of Jesus. After the 5 day studies are complete, you end with an activity section that includes simple ideas for families to continue the celebration of Advent.

I typically lean towards studies that are very in depth, but CiuCiu presents a very simple approach to studying the names of Jesus. This simplicity allows the study to be used in families with young children and still be exciting.

I appreciated that the study of names was sandwiched in-between a time for deep, soulful celebration and fun, engaging celebration. It allows your heart and mind to prepare appropriately and also to enjoy who Jesus is.

It's a very simple and easy devotional to use for families.

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Have you ever wondered how many names there are for Jesus? There is a book called, "Unwrapping the Names of Jesus" by Asheritah Ciuciu. This is an amazing book that is centered on the advent season. It is divided into four weeks and has the traditional advent themes; preparation, joy, love, and hope. The book is lightweight and very eye catching. It is a great addition to your Christmas dcor when you set it on a mantelpiece for others to pick up and read.

I feel this book is great to read and work through during the advent season. It prepares our hearts for the day that Jesus will arrive. However, I do not feel that this book should be shared just around Christmas time. I feel that this book can be read any time of the year. It's great to keep our hearts set on the coming of Christ all year round. The author gives you thoughtful questions throughout the book that would make this a great Bible study for you and your family to work through. Take a look for yourself and see the wonderful activities, scripture and names of Jesus that are mentioned in this book.

Please note: I received this book in exchange for my honest review from Moody Publishers. All thoughts in my review are my own.
