By taking great pains in reconstructing the history and chronology of the entire sweep of Egyptian dynastic history John Ashton and David Down restore the timeline to its original place as a support for biblical history. Illustrated throughout with beautiful full-color photographs of artifacts, structures and art (along with a reproduction of the black and white photos from Zakaria Goneim's discoveries of the "Lost Pyramid" in the 1950's), Unwrapping the Pharaohs presents a wealth of information for anyone interested in these issues.

But much like the questions I had about where dinosaurs fit into the Bible, I felt that the Scriptures must have been in error because the Egyptian chronologies didn't line up with the stories of the Bible. Praise the Lord for those who have taught me differently...using Scriptures and books such as this one. If you have ever questioned the authority of Scripture based on archaeology or accepted timelines and chronologies, you must purchase this book. The photos are great, and the information is mind-blowing. A bonus DVD is included with my book, but I've not had time to review it yet...
Declared Unto HimAge: 35-44Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Great ResourceFebruary 8, 2012Declared Unto HimAge: 35-44Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5We loved the colored pages, which were loaded with historical photos, maps and charts. This book was similar in layout as Unveiling the Kings of Israel, and both resources share how archaeology confirms the biblical timeline. One of my favorite parts of the book is the timeline section at the beginning of each chapter, the graph shows the placement of biblical history along side the history of Egypt. So it's easy to see that King Khufu was ruling when Abraham visited Egypt in Genesis 12:10.
The only 'con' that comes to mind is of the Egyptian culture, this book does not hide the paganism that was deeply imbedded in society. Some graphics may need additional clothing, depending on family preference.
I would recommend Unwrapping the Pharaohs for the high school student and adult, possibly for younger children depending upon your personal convictions. Truly a wonderful resource for history.
