Danny Bryd is a Hollywood producer who has an excellent reputation for getting things done and on budget. Things fall apart for him when his business partner steals the investors' money, and Danny finds himself in jail with both his career and reputation in shreds.

L.A. attorney, Megan is asked to be Danny's defender.

I learned quite a bit about the film making industry and found it quite fascinating, and at times cut throat. Everyone wants to get ahead.

Davis Bunn is one of my favorite Christian fiction authors and I enjoyed this story!

I was given an ecopy of this book from the publisher, Revell and Netgalley in exchange for my honest review.

This was definitely a new genre for me from one of my favorite authors. I have read many of Davis Bunn's Christian fiction series, but this book is definitely general market contemporary. It is a clean read, quick read which I definitely enjoyed.

Danny Byrd has grown up as a foster kid along with his best friend J.R. They have gone in to business together as an agency for producing Hollywood films. But Danny now finds himself in jail and J.R. has absconded with every bit of their assets and set Danny up to be the bad guy. Someone sends an attorney, Megan Pierce, to represent him; and he also discovers that he has inherited half ownership of a lodge in San Luis Obispo, California.

This was an interesting storyline as it takes you behind the scenes in film production and shows the dog eat dog attitude of those involved in it. There was also a hint of cozy mystery in determining who was helping pay for all the good things that were happening to Danny. A touch of romance between Danny and Megan was the icing on the cake. Realistic characters both main and secondary and a good plot made this a good read.

**I received a complimentary copy of this book from Revell Publishing through NetGalley. Opinions are mine alone. I was not compensated for this review.

Davis Bunn is one of those authors that I have been reading for years. Some of his books are historical some are contemporary, but all of them have one thing in common: they are to be savored. His new book, Unscripted is no exception.

Unscripted is the story of Danny Byrd, a wounded, broken and betrayed man who is learning to put the pieces of his life together again. The beauty of this story is in how that happens. As the title would lead you to believe, the story of Danny's life takes a path both unplanned and unexpected-unscripted.

From behind prison bars, Danny emerges, freed in part by one who helped put him there. He finds himself at the mercy of those who are truly merciful. He is confronted with the need to forgive, with the need to trust and also the need to become vulnerable. Bunn weaves these themes into a story that takes us through the production of a movie, from budget negotiations to finished product.

The setting was very interesting, I gained some insight into the world of film making that I hadn't had before. This is one of the things I appreciate about Bunn's writing, his ability to research and then translate that information into a story that immerses you into a believable place, teaching you along the way so that you feel like you belong right there with the characters.

I would recommend Unscripted to someone looking for a thoughtful read to savor. It is a perfect book to curl up with this fall while enjoying a hot drink and a rainy day.

I received this book from the publisher in exchange for my honest review.

Having sold over 8 million copies and won 4 Christy awards, Davis Bunn is a celebrated author that knows his craft. In his latest book, he takes on both Hollywood and the legal system that supports it.

Main character Danny Byrd has chosen a life of integrity, despite his broken upbringing in the foster system. When his faith in the one friend who knows his whole past is shattered, Danny finds his faith in himself also shattered. But a mysterious rescue from jail and an even stranger inheritance give him a chance to start again. When others show their faith in his ideas, he takes a huge leap and decides to give a young, unknown musician a chance to tell her story through a made for tv Valentine's Day movie.

At the same time, lawyer Megan Pierce sees a road "less traveled" and takes it. Is this the way for someone who loves the movie industry like she does to serve its legal needs without being caught in the cut-throat, rigid system of Hollywood's current legal bosses? She hopes it is and along the way she will be able to give Danny the support he needs.

There are a lot of unknowns in this book, as I guess there are in real life. Sometimes all those questions made me feel lost in the story. Why did Danny's friend betray him? Who wants the cable network's Valentine show to fail? Why? Who left Danny an odd inheritance? Who hired Megan in the first place? And perhaps the biggest question, "How can you pull a movie together in under a month with an unknown, untested lead character and NO SCRIPT? But as I said earlier, Bunn is a talented writer and he weaves all the questions into a surprising, but satisfactory ending. I received a copy of this novel from Revell Reads. All opinions are mine.

I really enjoyed learning a bit about how the money is gotten for a movie or tv show. I also enjoyed the romance and seeing a young girl get discovered. I liked the romance and the little bit of mystery behind who was helping Danny. This story made me laugh and cry. I received a copy of this book from Revell for a fair and honest opinion that I gave of my own free will.
