This engaging book deals with the problem of cultural Christianity. The author does a good job of addressing the problem of "religion" versus having a heart felt faith centered on the gospel of Jesus Christ. Too often people identify themselves as Christian because they identify with a particular denomination or were baptized in a particular church. But their Christian faith is not the central part of their being influencing all aspects of their life.

The author describes Cultural Christianity as admiring Jesus but it does not think He is needed except in a crisis situation. Some of the chapters include the following topics: Religion without Salvation; Civic Religion; False Assurance and the Country Club Church to name a few. What is very helpful is that there is an appendix in the back of the book which summarizes the types of Cultural Christianity and addresses ways to approach those individuals to have meaningful conversations. Also helpful is at the end of each chapter there are discussion and reflection questions which makes it easy to discuss the book in a group setting. As someone who has been told, "I am a Christian, but not a Christian like you are," I appreciate the insights and ways to respond when someone says that to me again.

This book is a must read for the "American Christian". I would guess that 9 out of 10 people who identify as "Christian" in America will be convicted or offended as this book will accurately describe their relationship with Jesus. I highly recommend reading this book with honesty, prayer and a Bible.

How do you reach someone who doesn't know Jesus, if they say that they are already a Christian?

Mr. Dean Inserra draws from his own personal experiences as he discusses in this reader friendly and concise book the difference between knowing God, and knowing about God. Incredibly relevant, this book addresses cultural Christianity directly discussing barriers within the church that prove a challenge to a personal saving relationship, recognition of our sin and God's holiness in today's culture.

I liked how Mr. Inserra calls us not just to look at the splinter in another's eye, but to also examine ourselves for traces of cheap grace. As it is easy to be the Pharisee at times, seeing our friends and family as unworthy tax collectors. He also talks about how to initiate deeper conversations on faith with cultural Christians, as well the importance of the great commission to continue to pray and witness to others, even if they state that they are already Christians.

Mr. Inserra uses many good examples, often drawing from his own personal life to show the importance of not growing lax in our witness because someone is a good person or identifies with a few of Jesus's teachings.

Overall, a very relevant, honest read that addresses the stumbling blocks in our Christian culture, and encourages believers to strive toward the prize, with a right knowledge and understanding of the Gospel of Jesus Christ living it out in our daily lives, and encouraging others to do likewise. I really liked how this book summarized a lot of things that I had been thinking about lately, directly speaking to the problems of cultural Christianity and what a danger it is to today's church. Thought provoking and concise, it is both challenging and easy to read. Highly recommend!

I think everyone needs to read this. It's clear and uncompromising. It is sure to start discussions. I live not far from where Mr. Inserra is a pastor. His church is making strides in its community. He lives out what he writes.

I could not put this book down. i could see the malfunctions in my life with people and organizations that claimed to be Christ centered. Thank god i finally heard the true word in my life and the change occured.

I am buying a book for every family in our church. This book is spiritually awsome.
