Linda5 Stars Out Of 5ExcellentSeptember 28, 2016LindaQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5I haven't know people with autism very well, but this book, told a story and was very informative too. I read it in two days - only because I had to do other things too. It was excellent and gave me a new understanding.
barbNY5 Stars Out Of 5Very InterestingMarch 14, 2016barbNYQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5I learned a lot about autism in this book, but also realized it truly would take a miracle to accomplish what happened in the story. It could be dangerous for Kingsbury to suggest that vaccinations are a possible cause of autism. While it has been suggested as a possibility, many may react to it by withholding shots for their children with possible fatal results. Millions of children avoid serious diseases by being vaccinated and do not become autistic! I did enjoy the book, however, and would recommend it as food for thought.

It was very enlightening for me to read about autism. The current cover is a new one and it looks more like a book that teens would like; however, it is for granny's, too! You won't regret reading Unlocked, and then you'll want to pass your copy around for others to read.

musicmomZoar, OHAge: 45-54Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Very insightfulDecember 29, 2015musicmomZoar, OHAge: 45-54Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5I work as an Intervention Specialist with students who have multiple disabilities, including autism. So many times, these individuals are judged by their seemingly irrational or random behaviors. This book, although fictional, offers a glimpse into the possible thought processes of an individual with autism. People with autism often perceive, process and react differently than others, but that is not to say that there are not valid rationales behind their actions and reactions. Indeed, as illustrated in the story, they may be intelligent, talented, and have unique strengths and abilities to offer, if only provided with patience, understanding and appropriate supports.
Having a child with autism often does precipitate relationship difficulties within marriages, families, and in social circles, as reflected in the relationships of the Holden's, their families and friends. The emotional and spiritual elements interwoven in the story also demonstrate the power of prayer, faith, and perseverance.
I enjoy Karen Kingsbury's books, and "Unlocked" is no exception.
