Kaye WhitneyMiami, FLAge: Over 65Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Willing WorkersNovember 17, 2021Kaye WhitneyMiami, FLAge: Over 65Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5The clever title and cover drew me to this book. I love to knit, but who could the Dragon Lady be? This fascinating tale by Sharon J. Mondragon brings to light sorrows, problems, obstacles to overcome that people have hidden in order to cope with life and help others who need comfort. We all probably know a well-meaning, diligent leader who always wants to make all of the choices for the group.
These talented and skillful ladies knit prayer shawls for others who need comforting. They learn to lead better lives because of their generosity.
I was delighted to read of their various adventures, misadventures, ingenuity in overcoming problems, but especially their increasingly honest revelations to each other. I recommend The Unlikely Yarn of the Dragon Lady for those interested in prayer or knitting or crocheting.

Kay B5 Stars Out Of 5Extrordinarily OrdinaryOctober 16, 2021Kay BQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5In a world that seems to be spinning out of control, what a joy to be reminded that God STILL has a plan and a purpose for us, even if we cannot see it. Steadfastly seeking Him and obeying his direction, even if it comes from a quirky pastor, will reveal that plan and foster our own spiritual growth.
The characters in The Unlikely Yarn of the Dragon Lady are interesting, likable (or NOT), but oh, so real! They remind me of my friends, family, and neighbors. Some remind me of myself. I laughed and cried with them. Their struggles, their secrets, the issues and problems they deal with, can happen to any of us, Christian or not. How they deal with those issues is instructive, creative, and HOPEFUL.
The plot twists and turns, but consistently shows us that, being ordinary, old, damaged, or imperfect, in no way disqualifies us from being loved, forgiven, and nurtured by God, and through his people. Nor does it prevent us from accomplishing great things for others and the kingdom of God.
Using the ladies of the Heavenly Hugs Prayer Shawl Ministry, and their age-old craft of knitting, is the perfect, though unlikely, vehicle for this story of obedience, sisterly love, and HOPE.
I have known Sherry for years and was inspired to start a Handiwork group at my own church. I would have gladly bought the book, but Kregel Publications graciously gave me one with no expectation of a positive review. I did this because itis a great little book and I would recommend it to anyone! It may well be under several Christmas trees this year!

But please don't let that deter you. This book has a lot to offer and may even inspire you to start a prayer group among your friends.

VeraNorth CarolinaAge: Over 65Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5A treat to readOctober 11, 2021VeraNorth CarolinaAge: Over 65Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5I had no idea I would enjoy this book about a group of middle aged and older ladies in a knitting group making prayer shawls. It totally surprised me.
Characters who rub everyone the wrong way. Charmers. Sweet ladies. Young folks in difficulties. The whole gamut of characters was sprinkled through the story and life events that changed lives.
A slowly dying church, a group of ladies, the need of interventional prayer in the lives of folks in the community. The story is about the extent that this group touches the community and how their own personal lives evolve and change for the better.
I totally love this story and it is truly a wonderful piece of women's fiction.

ThereadmasterDavenport,IowaAge: 45-54Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5made me feel warm all overOctober 10, 2021ThereadmasterDavenport,IowaAge: 45-54Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5When I first started to read this book I was not sure how I would like it because I usually like books with suspense and romance. This one has heart. I laughed and I cried. I had not heard of giving out prayer shawls before but now I think it is a fantastic idea. Some books like this can be sappy but this one is not it is just a beautiful story. I received a copy of this book from Read with Audra for a fair and honest opinion that I gave of my own free will.
