Unleashed- Excellent, fast paced read!
December 1, 2016
Unleashed is an excellent, well written book. If you're looking for a fast paced book with unlimited adventure, look no further! Since the story takes place in the far future, this book has a distinct sci-fi feel, as well as a bit of fantasy thrown in. Experimental labs with dinosaurs and monsters, evil rulers zipping around the universe (reminds me of Darth Vader), Ancient archeological ruins, and a mysterious quest for truth and eternal life. All of these elements will keep you on the edge of your seat.
The best part of this book series (yes, I have read them all) is the truth woven amid adventures. The Wikk kids are introduced to the Creator, Rescuer, and Helper. Christians will smile at these terms for God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. However, teens not familiar with Christian terms will soon be able to recognize and understand the Gospel story woven throughout the book. Love, faith, redemption and hope add depth to this story, making it not just another Sci-fi book. The prayer (for readers) to receive Christ at the end is a wonderful finishing touch.
Just a head's up though, I wouldn't read this book to young children as bedtime. The adventure is fast paced, with one thing happening after another. Characters are constantly stunned, shot at , wounded (by dinosaurs etc.), burned, drowned, chased etc. It is a thick book, and it can be hard to keep up with all the action if you choose to read it all in a day. Nearly every chapter ends with a cliff hanger, and the writing style constantly keeps you guessing at what will happen next.
Overall, this book is a wonderful for boys ( and girls!) who are ready for some action and some spiritual depth.
Today I share a review of the 3rd book in The Quest for Truth series by Brock Eastman. I have really been enjoying reading this series. It's written for tweens/teens, but I loved it, too!
Here's a brief plot overview: The Wikk kids' are on a quest to rescue their archaelogist parents. The setting is in the future and has a "Star Trek" feel as they fly from planet to planet. No aliens, though. :) I love the fun, sci-fi aspects of the story. But the most important thing about the story is that the characters are on a Quest for Truth. Christianity has been underground for so long that very few people know about it anymore. Toward the end of "Unleash" much is revealed about the Truth! You'll find drama, excitement, suspense, great characters, and a wonderful story in Unleash. You can start with book 3, but you'll probably want to pick up Taken and Risk as well! These would be good books to "assign" for your kids to read this next school year!
